According to my MS Word file he is up to 25,217 words, which is a small novel by any standard!

He's been doing this since the spring too...

Give him some time to recharge and to come up with the next round :D

Great, if twisted, stuff!

So what are you going to do for an encore?? Rather curious to see what you do with Southern Cross (my favorite part by the way).

The hat's off man, all the way to the floor. If it was a book I'd pay money for it. You've inspired me to put my CS in the 3 galaxies story on the back burner and start a Robotech/Macross II in the three Galaxies story... only problem is that in addition to being less heavily armed, the Veritechs/Valkeries are way slower than the machina of the Galaxies... I suppose I could just write up new ones... but work has my brain stuck in hibernation...

I can't wait for the next installment, don't ever let it end... You could do a comic out of the script you've laid down. I especially like your ability to both cover story line and get into necessary detail, a balance I have a hard time reaching without a head injury.

Peace.

Hmm... yeah I just got my copy of the first Robotech DVD, have to agree with the general concensus that the guys who made that were on crack. They even managed to make the Veritechs ugly... that's hard.
It seems to follow the Mckinney books pretty well, or are they a novelization of that collection of bad translations? I have seen worse tho...

Were all the cartoons from the 80's like that? no wonder some people don't like anime, I know I wouldn't get the kick I do if it was all like that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying every misbegotten minute of that stuff. I was slightly more impressed when I realized that the music from Robotech: Battlecry was the same as that of the origional series... how quaint.
I just wish I could find a PAL VCR here, I have a tape I picked up in Russia that claims it is 'ahem' Star Wars but it is definately a cartoon with a veritech on the box and what looks like Rick and Minmei. NOw the funny part is that the guy translating it from Japanese (which you can still hear in the background) to Russian has no idea what's going on you get a lot of "ummm" in there, but I haven't been able to watch it since I got stateside again. Anybody know which movie has the SDF-1 fly inside the commandship of the Zentraedi and the super veritech hose down the main baddie with all his guns? It definately has the Max/Miriya fight in it. It's the one where they wind up on the water world... I don't know Japanese and the Russian in it was deplorable. Help me out.

the novels are loosely based on the show, and are about 50% purely writer interpretation (generally in the area of how things work)

once you get into the novels with no show backing (zentreadi uprising, before the invid storm, masters gambit, end of the circle) the quality drops further. whole personalities change, for no reason other than to shoehorn them into the plot, events and explanations cease to be consistant, even with the other novels, and plots turn rather asanine.

the "mystic mecha" crud i hated, and the whole "protoculture as an effective extension of the omnipotent/omnicent Hydon entity" plot was just an excuse not to explain what protoculture is. basically, as far as the books go, protoculture is "magic".

other than those points, i thought the books where intresting reads (though the writers must have had a sex fetish or something)

the expanded history material (minus the points above) made for a more interesting universe.

Rick hunter has only relatively recently been intro'ed to the scheme of things...and he's a bit of an emotional moron, currently engaged in trying to do an infiltration of a superior officer's pants...

As for the Bridge Bunnies....One of 'em's has taken on Minmei's role of (bad) idol-singer, is dating Ben Dixon(actually one of my favorite characters from the Macross Saga...hey, he was a lousy pilot and all that, but his heart was in the right place), hence the title of her hit single "My Boyfriend's a Buckethead!"

AS for the rest of the cast? Only time will tell....

Hm,

With the Fire Power the RPG Gives a Zent Warship, even 1000 of Them would Wreck Rifts Earth real good. Take out the Space colonies, Kill the Munchkin Things CJ put in orbit, and Bombard this Earth past the Stoneage... Possbily Destroying the Entire universe in the Process.

Really, Minmays Singing kept the rain of Death at bay? I need to rewatch the serise b/c I'm sure The Zent Obliorated 70% of the life on the Planet... but i could be misthinking.

Plus, Singing to any Enemy is not a common or even good Idea, Which starts to run somewhere in to the "Meta-Game" Thinking area.

I did have an idea for the 3 galaxies / Macross-Robotech crossover. Can anyone imagine what the splugorth would do with a giant SDC warrior race... hmm maxi-juicer conversion much? Soldiers almost a s large as a CAF Battleram Robot? yippie.

Bestarium wrote:Yeah you should rewatch the series, you've forgotten the Zentraedi lost the first Robotech War. Granted humanity didn't walk away celebrating a resounding victory, but in the end the good guys won.

As per singing being out of context for the situation, you ever seen a Vietnam war movie? All it takes is one individual with a taste for loud music to break Zent Morale by blaring the Rifts equivalent of Yanni over a loud speaker. I know it'd break my will to fight.

Thou the Zents Lost the War, they Still Destroyed a large portion of the Earth, and Even then they were' still tenacious enought as to be able to Take the SDF-1 out easy as pie (well... everyoen just about died in that one=p)

not sure on the Veitnam Refrence... but in Robotech they only Figured the Zents would react that way after Rick, lisa and Ben were nabbed by the Zents, and after Breetia and Exodor Joind the UGE's Side against Dolza... With out that kinda Investigation in to the Situation any PC who Tried Singing as a Attack would find it only made the enemy have a +10 to attack because it annoys the crap out of them, and makes the BERZERKER WARRIORS!!
as for Maxi-Juicer Zents...
I remember a Simmiler Theam from back in the Day.. it involved Zent Undegoing the Process form Phase world that Makes you Gain Super powers... fergot which nation designed that...

Nice Story,

?'s thou

1) What ships do the Invid use for Capital ships... none were ever shown in the serise, the Slug hive fomr sentiels isnt exactly a capital ship... Hive Ships are basically Conlony ships... did you design somekinda new Capital ship for the Invid?

2) Why keep the Time/space distortion fomr the novels? its basically disproved by the Anime, (Refrence Carpenter's Aide on in SC Epidose "outsiders", where Carpenters Aide states it his home for 15 years... with 5 yr folds... that ship was Launched in 2004.... and the SDF-3 sent Aide to the Southren cross 4 years before they asked for it or needed it.http://www.robotech.com/infopedia/episodes/viewepisode.php?episode=47 but it seams the person who wrote this Guide never watched the Episode =p :P

i cant see the Invid being this big of a Threat to the Master Empire, They are the Weakest of the 3invaders, they only have sucess keeeping REF forces at bay b/c they are Entrnched on earth, and b/c the REF never sent back a HUGE fleet to take them out, until the Final Fleet. (Which thansk top Scott and Crew got nearly Wasted by the Regis.)
The only Reason the Master in the Sc era fear them is b/c they Fear the Invid getting to the Reason they came to earth, the Matrix. Least that my opions from just watching the Serise.

DOnt take this as me Dissing your Story, your Story, you do what you want.

I never had a Problem with how the First section and second section fo Robotech are tied together, Dana Started Dyeing her hair, and Went on in to the UEF.

as for those Japanesse Serise that Robotech uses for Animation cells... I dont think they could fit together in any way... Marcoss is all about Singing and that Stupid Battle fortress....

I said I'd do this pic a while ago, but just got around to the first of three tonight...
I present: "Butch" Minmei!

And now, "Silver" Sterling!
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/13628648/
(and yes, I was going for a more effeminate Max, since Minmei is more "butch")

Not a criticism, but I pictured her with shorter hair.

Yeah, the problem with the pic is you can't see the hairline is longest at the front, getting shorter as it goes back (the back of her hair reaches the point where head and spine meet).
I did consider giving her a "Pixie" haircut (Julia Roberts in Hook), but thought that was a little extreme...

If I get industrous, I might throw out a side profile later...
(Or if Z uses Butch, Silver, and Buckethead in an REF Sentinels spin-off... :D )

EDIT: wow, I must really be on a roll tonight...
Here's "Buckethead" Dixon!

Glad you like it, Big Z! :ok:
And now, the terrible trio of destruction...
Ben "Buckethead" Dixon, Lynn "Butch" Minmei, andMaximillian "Silver" Sterling!!!
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/13639957/

EDIT: Just fixed the "View full deviation" size (second button under pic), so it should give a screenshot, rather than 4 or 5 screens.

2nd EDIT: Pic has been fixed so that they are standing in a group.

If anyone has Photoshop skillz, and feels like coloring it, feel free. Being colorblind makes it a long, painful experience for me (mostly cause I have to bother the wife to check my work).

But I really like this pic, so I think I'm gonna try to color it as well ("Silver" Sterling leaps to life better in color!).

It just may be 2 years before I finish...

Well, I got the group pose I wanted finally (had to use layering though...)
Now I just need to either ink or digitally draw the lines in darker.
And decide on Minmei's hair...
Since I'm going to visit the folks, all that's gonna take a while... :-D

If, however, that's a bon-bon...

lol. Ok, now I know I need to change it when I darken the lines... ;)

*just notices that Novastar hasn't posted on the Season 2 thread at all*

Ye Gawds, man! I'm busy drawing your creations! :P
Actually, I've was super-busy with 19+ units of Engineering Classes at SFSU last semester, so spare-time was generally spent on sleep (an utter waste of 4-6 hours...).

I read the first few posts, but haven't had a moment to save the rest on my computer yet... :D

Also changed Minmei's hair, and fixed Max's chin finally...

Wow... Now that was a read. Good work there, Z. I'll have to go over it again later on for a more thorough read-through and not just a skim. Thanks for the link from over on Sound Off. :ok:
