Yodelling is a form of singing.... So I guess anywhere the Sing skill would be used.
Then again I would just have used the Sing skill and specified a Yodelling ability.

This is already covered in the Research skill.

Or Computer Operation. -15% for dual purpose access devices like wifi-enabled Kindles and Nooks(my personal and professional bugbears). :D

I worked in a library for several years. I was more than capable of using the catalog to its fullest extent. At BEST it is part of the research skill. I wouldnt even really require a roll for most uses.
And MA has nothing at all to do with one's ability in that regard.

MA's for presenting collected data to patrons and having them believe you; the number of times I've presented facts that contradicted what the person WANTED to hear and got a reply of "Oh REALLY?" could just make me weep blood tears of frustration....

Agreed whole heartedly, but presenting the findings is wholly separate from the act of researching/uncovering those findings. The presented item indicated it was also for personal use. When was the last time you didn't believe yourself?

Operating a Smartphone would, to me, fall under Computer Operation for most of it, but could also be for Surveillance Systems (for the camera), TV/Video for video editing and Radio: Basic for actually using it to call someone. Texting is Computer Operation.

As a serious answer yes to all of the above, as well as Photography. There are also some Programming and Hacking aspects so those skills as well. Any phone that comes with a stylus also works for Art skills (technically even ones where you use your finger, but gotta draw a line somewhere). Of course the combination with Research. Also Netwise would be applicable to some applications. I think I recall a 'Use Internet' skill in one of the mid-late 50s Rifters.

I am sure I can find other skills to help maximize your smartphone usage if I opened a book. But that is enough for now.
(I work with cell and smartphones).

Competitive Eating is already a skill here, back on page 10.

This... doesnt server a purpose, other than embracing gluttony. Which may be a perfectly valid life choice, but it is not a skill.

That would be fasting, and there is a skill for that already.

Unless you are saying that they like store the excess food internally, in which case that would be a mutation, or alien species or D-Bee, or genetic engineering, not a skill.

I could see there being a minor power that would allow you to eat without being poisoned, or having bonuses to save vs. poisons and toxins, but it really is not a skill per se.

Actually, that doesn't work. My coworker's husband is a professional sculptor and designer for LEGO. He shows no signs of deteriorating in prowess as he gets older.

Easy:

LEGO Sculpting comes under Art(General)(35% + 5% per level/exp.) with regards to planning and whether or not the finished product looks like what the artist intended.

Constructing with CONCRETE and SCALED UP LEGOs or other modular construction blocs would come under Masonry.

I counter with:

Nothing: The ability to simply, without conscience or consciousness, to do absolutely nothing of consequence, importance, or lasting value to anyone ever at any time. There is no skill proficiency in doing Nothing because that would constitute a measurable scale of SOMETHING, which negates the entire point of Nothing. People may claim that doing Nothing is part of attaining a Zen-like state of acceptance and enlightened existence, but they are misled in this assumption, since what they think of as doing Nothing is actually Something. Putting/doing Nothing and Anything together is to tempt fate and megaversal catastrophe, equivalent to Dividing By Zero.

Laundry(Domestic)
This is the skill of efficiently and expertly cleaning fabrics and textiles, with special attention given to garments, as well as their care and storage. Covers handwashing, machine cleaning, dry cleaning, and other more specialized means of removing stains, reducing mechanical damage, thread-wear, and color fading. Also covers special procedures for taking care of silks, linens, and other delicates, and proper care and cleaning of leathers and fur garments. A Professional rating in this skill allows for efficient batch-processing of large quantities of laundry. Possessing the Sewing or Wardrobe skill adds a +5% to this skill, and having the Chemistry skill adds a +3%.
Skill Proficiency: 55%+5% perr level of experience.

General Guidelines to Creating New Skills

-Originality
---Don’t reinvent fire(though one Australian managed to patent the wheel); check the Palladium skill lists(and, in this case, the forum-thread archives) to make sure that the skill doesn’t already exist. Also make sure that your proposed skill can’t or isn’t already covered by an existing skill, or can be explained as a subset or specialization of that skill(examples: Regional and specialized cuisine come under the umbrella of the Cooking skill, medical specialization like nose, ear, throat, liver, cardiology, etc., can be spun off as subsets of Medical Doctor, while ‘finger-painting’ and ‘paper mache sculpture’ come under the general description of Art). Also note that some skill concepts may be better served by MULTIPLE existing skills; “Sculpture Welding’ may sound cool as a specific skill, but you get more mileage(and versatility) by seeing it as a combination of Art and Mechanics Basic(or Metalworking).

-Realism----Properly, Skills are TAUGHT and LEARNED. They take time and take up attention, and not everybody can do them automatically. Your choice of a skill concept should reflect this. ‘Breathing’ is not a skill because everybody not suffering a respiratory ailment can breath perfectly fine as part of the very act of living; Oxygen Conservation and Vacuum Survival, on the other hand, are SKILLS, because they require training and practice to make sure the person DOESN’T die trying to breath normally under special circumstances. ‘Lick Envelopes’ is NOT a skill, because anybody with a tongue can learn to do it without extensive practice or coursework(unless, or course, they are severely disabled). Skills also take place in real time and won’t automatically make somebody superhuman; ‘Market Forecasting’ or ‘Economics’, for example, shouldn’t make a character omniscient on economic matters. Skills reflect an investment in time and attention to do something consistantly well.

-Utility---The skill has to be USEFUL, even in some small way to somebody. Even(maybe ESPECIALLY) gag- or absurd skills should have something to them. Find some side benefit that might make somebody want to take it just to pick up that collateral bonus. Use your imagination, but temper it with Realism. ‘W.P. Tiddlywinks’ may sound absurd, but the sci-fi authors Gordon Dickson & Paul Anderson arguably make a case for it in one of their ‘Hoka’ parody stories with an alien culture using manhole cover-sized bronze disks for exactly that purpose. ‘Paperplane Making’ better reflect more than just being able to throw a folded office memo across a small room if you seriously consider it as a skill.

-Content---Be THOROUGH when describing a skill; the more ambitious the skill, the more thorough you better be in describing it and what it can do for people. Simply saying that a skill ‘allows you to win bets’ , ‘get sex’ or ‘know everything about something’ isn’t enough. The broader the skill, the more factors affecting its execution and possible success. Provide stats for your skill, as well as note any other factors that come into play affecting it. Even ‘W.P. Tiddlywinks’ should have at least one hard stat, however lame.

-Clarity---Goes hand in hand with Content. Be clear, define it, spell out your skill(and use spellchecking), and describe it so there’s no misunderstandings. If you claim that a skill allows somebody to do something, the stats better reflect it. Don’t be (accidentally or deliberately) ambiguous.

Well, I was feeling philosophical after grubbing around for skill ideas(easy ones already being taken or claimed under the aforementioned umbrella of existing canon skills), and the one I have come up with lately I'm wondering might be a little TOO real/hot button.
Thus, some observations on what makes a good Skill posted here.

Then may I suggest an inconsequential skill (one a pc takes just for the fun of it) like my competitive belching skill (thanks again for your help with it).

My assorted pc's have, Competitive Belching (done) Dramatic Posturing (Strike a pose!), Aquarium Art (Underwater diorama's), Collect novelties. I'm sure there are others that I can't remember.

Give it a go, have fun, and let that imagination fly.

Not really. It suffers from vagueness and over-ambition.
If you're able to sense them if they're in disguise or otherwise cloaked, or a previously unknown superbeing, or if that guy in a costume ISN'T a superbeing, it would be more a superpower(Minor). Then again, if you got a wino in longjohns and a plastic sheet loudly claiming to be a superhero, it doesn't take skill to determine he's NOT what he claims to be(on the other hand, if he starts levitating and buildings start obeying his commands, commonsense in getting OUT OF THERE applies),
This seems more like general knowledge(who DOESN'T recognize Superman?).

It would be best expanded as:
Lore: Superbeings/Superpowers, which is more like a fan/otaku ability to know something about the most commonly known superheroes/villains/beings and their abilities. It might even apply to a general knowledge of super-organizations and aliens most often affiliated with supers. Anything more specific would likely count as Intelligence(Military).

Abe; try to avoid terms like ANY in the future*, with regards to big vague, underdefined capabilities or bodies of knowledge. Mull your ideas over awhile and think them through before posting. Be THOROUGH and be CLEAR.
*Think LIMITS to a skill concept. Remember, skills involve LEARNING; they don't make you all-knowing. It's not ANY, it's SOME.

I'm going to let you flesh those out. I got enough on my plate already. Please, no boxes of orphan kittens on my doorstep(I might eat them instead).
As with Abe, I'll offer these suggestions:
Dramatic Posturing can be best served by Public Speaking or Performance, maybe even Dance. It would, of necessity, being dependant on, or modify, M.A.. Anything more than a +1 modifier and we're talking more Martial Arts/magic Mudra or superpower, not a skill.
Aquarium Art comes under the cover of Art(plus Botany, Biology, Breed Animals, Basic Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, and Oxygen Systems if you're building and stocking the tank too).
Collect Novelties would be best served as a subset of Appraise Goods, and maybe even Find Contraband.

I thought at the time that I was original & coherent in my attempt to make a new skill, sorry if I wasn't.

That's why I set forth the guidelines. To help you weed and feed your ideas.
Use your imagination not only to create a skill/power, but to shoot it down. Ask yourself; 'what can go wrong with this?'. Use your imagination to deconstruct the idea you just came up with. Beat it up. Self-edit. Play your own devil's advocate.
That's the first trial by fire of a posting...or rather a PRE-post.
While there's something to be said for spontaneity and the energetic rush of a new idea, there's also a lot to be said for letting an idea simmer awhile and mature.

I did a number of ones like this at one time, for characters who were needing to track data on "supers". I don't know what I did with them. I might try and find them.

Please do...a 'street-level' knowledge skill of superbeings I can see as part of the skill package for superhero otaku, wannabes, and sidekicks. More specialized info available to government agents and those with paramilitary training I can see coming under the Military skill 'Intelligence'.

Oh wonderful, I get a whole subsection of skills all to myself :-P

Dramatic Posturing can be best served by Public Speaking or Performance, maybe even Dance. It would, of necessity, being dependant on, or modify, M.A.. Anything more than a +1 modifier and we're talking more Martial Arts/magic Mudra or superpower, not a skill.

Careful now, you're making a hobby skill into something that might actually be legitmately useful rather than just humorous. I got the idea from the Captain Morgan's Rum commercials and the Geico commercial "happier than a body builder directing traffic"

Aquarium Art comes under the cover of Art(plus Botany, Biology, Breed Animals, Basic Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, and Oxygen Systems if you're building and stocking the tank too).

Yes, this could easily be based on a specialized art skill. I'd give it a +3% bonus if botany was taken. Nope, not building or stocking the tank, just about making it look astetically pleasing.

Collect Novelties would be best served as a subset of Appraise Goods, and maybe even Find Contraband.

phhbbbtt. there you go again making a skill useful. This one was more about remembering which of an item i already had in the collection or knowing what was trendy or might hold value later on (so maybe appraise goods).

Well, it helps to have the Rifter #0 up on my computer....it has a skill listing of skills that have appeared (to the Rifter #0's date) for easy reference.
While there is a Paint Rocks and Engraving, Feng Shui/geomancy, Housekeeping, there ISN'T a general Architecture skill(presumably because building a house or stage set would come under combined Masonry+ Carpentry+ any necessary mechanical and electrical skills. There's no skill either for Interior Design, so it's worth checking the Black Vault to see if those have been fan-done. I'm pretty sure, though, I've seen Blueprint Reading somewhere.

Come to think of it, I've gotta see if Stone Gargoyle is amenable to adding my Distilling, Viticulture, and Oenology to the list. Maybe my Bibliomancer to Magic, and my two martial arts to add as well. :D
