a contra-grav system negates weight but nort mass so i wouldn't think it cause it to crash but it would cause some handeling problems i would think.

gadrin wrote:I mean weight...

the old Rifts RPG has them at 20-feet long, and Dragons and Gods has them at 10-20 feet
and uses the term "behemoth".

So does 1-ton sound too light ?

I want to know if one could grapple with a small shuttle, say the size of the one's from
Star Trek Enterprise
and cause it to drop under the weight...

Sorry that's the best pic I could find

For weight of hatchlings I'd use a creature of similar size and the Netherbeast in the Africa book fit the bill at 14 feet at the shoulder, they must be 20 feet at the top of the head and their weight is 6 tons. I remember dragon hatchling are usually 70% full size.

And it takes them like 600 years until they reach their full size.

If they're ten to twenty feet long, there's real animals you can use as a benchmark. African elephants, for example, are about twelve feet high at the shoulder and fifteen feet long (shorter but waaaaay bulkier than a dragon, to judge by the illustrations) and average out at about seven or eight tons. Saltwater crocodiles (about as long as dragon hatchlings but way skinnier) can be over 20 feet long and weigh more than a ton and a half. Killer whales tend to be a bit over 20 feet and generally weigh in at about 6 tons.

So at a guess, based on how beefy they look compared to real animals, most types of dragon hatchling would probably be in the five to ten ton range.

Depends on if it's a male or female killer whale. That does make a some difference being that there is sexual dimorphism in the species. The males have gotten to over 30 feet and weighed in at 10 tons.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_whale A little something on killer whales.

There is a recorded salt water croc in India that is supposedly around 25 feet long and weighing in at 4400 pounds.

The weights are listed in the Dragons and Gods book.

I have to go and look at those. I don't remember how good those are. Sometimes weights are off.

Unless the magic that allows them to transform into human form causes most of the weight to be placed into an extra-dimensional space like some of the super heros powwers draw from when they get larger.

Here are the numbers I had managed to work out for my great horned dragon hatchling:
newborn:10' tall, 25' long, 50'wingspan, 10 tons
hatchling:20' tall, 50' long, 100'wingspan, 20 tons
adult: 30't, 70'l, 120'wingspan, 30 tons

[EDIT] I spent a whack of time about a decade ago finding these (my sources were the RMB, Conversion book and perhaps dragons and gods &/or Pantheons). I did have to estimate/alter a tiny bit, but not a lot.

Interesting. Now where did you get our numbers from. Just curious.
