Psi-mechanic devices you have built

Unread post by vika »

My psi-mechanic has built these and the GM allow them. You can post the ones you have built and what do you think about these.
Thanks Sasha for helping with English.

  • The electrokinetic mobile phone.
The mobile is modified to use speed dial to cause different electropowers. The recharging cable has been modified, too. It is plugged into a powerpack worn on the belt. This is a box with different blinking LEDs. Inside this box is a strange circuit that no electrical engineer will understand. It is based around a piece of amber with a small frog trapped inside. It uses amber because of its electric properties. Mental electronic messages can be typed and sent from this device but is not part of the device itself.
  • The modified GPS device.
This allows the psychic to use presence sense, sense evil, and sense magic powers. The device is a modified Garmin etrex. The user can use the joystick to select one of the three powers. The information can be displayed on the screen or sent to the user's brain via an earbud that can be plugged into the unit's USB port. The battery compartment has been modified to take another odd circuit board based around a ruby.
  • The oversized sunglasses.
These are oversized sunglasses that can fit over normal eyeglasses or sunglasses. They block all light but do not hinder vision whatsoever, even if worn in low-light conditions. The arms are connected with wires to the power supply; this allows the wearer to hang the sunglasses around the neck when not needed. The power supply is just like the strange power supply for the other devices, but it is smaller. The circuit is based around the hawk's eye mineral. This allows the wearer to see auras and to see the invisible.
  • The modified piezobuzzer.
This component is a standard buzzer available from any electronics shop or even taken from appliances. The buzzer, however, does not actually buzz as the vibration is detectable only by the psychic using the device. The power supply is the typical weird supply based around a clear tourmaline crystal due to its piezoelectrical properties. The device uses the sense evil and sense magic powers. The buzzer can be taped to the psychic's skin, held in the hand, or even kept in the pocket.

A favorite invention in my group is a IPhone that offers See Aura, See the invisible, Empathy and Telepathy. You need to use the camera function to see or use these abilites (ex:Need to be aiming the camera at a party's face/head to gain telepathy), and each psychic ability uses its own seperate app.

Its brought up humorous situations at times. Once I played a really peeved off gal because the player kept aiming his camera at her (suspected she may know more than she told the group about something they were investigating)... her jealous boy friend started causing trouble and tried to take away the iphone... it was awkward and humorous. :P

*nod* seems like something that could potentially cause trouble. :)

That sounds like HU stuff to me? I read this book once a few years back so I don't know.

I like the idea of genetic engineering but - in my mind - from a BtS perspective it would have Dr. Frankenshtein type stuff. :)

I agree... any genetic tampering should have grotesque consequences and conditions to it; It is a horror game after all.

For example, a gamma ray accident in the BTS world would have created Abomination instead of the Hulk.

Anybody ever consider a genetic Mechanic OCC to do the same kind of thing with Super Abilities? I Mean it's right there in the Experiment Power category that some scientists can do this but it's not fleshed out, Any Toughts?
Depends from your game but we must be careful to match the flavour of BtS with our crossovers (as the others point out).

If you are the government or the military, I like the PAB stuff from Nightbane for this purpose.

Vika, I really like how you incorporated unusual building materials into your descriptions.

I haven't personally built any. I haven't had a chance to play a psi-mechanic yet. As a writer & GM, however, I've bullied my NPCs into making a few for me.

Ectophones: These large and strange machines are considered by some to be Thomas Edison's greatest but most secret inventions... The first ectophone, based loosely on his phonograph designs, took Edison and a large team of researchers years to develop. Once built, however, it permitted them direct communication with otherworldly spirits. By questioning the spirits, the Court has made numerous other breakthroughs in both psi-engineering and paranormal research. The original ectophone is in fact the basis of almost all of the Court's advances over the last hundred years.
The largest part of the machine is a huge holding tank of psionically-charged fluid similar to ectoplasm and a series of speakers. Spirits are summoned by the machine and drawn inside of the tank, but typically they may leave at any time they wish. The fluid gives the spirit inside temporary visibility and a medium through which to transfer sound. Very rarely, a spirit will become trapped by accident inside the ectofluid tank.
Psi-powers used: Commune with Spirits (6), See the Invisible (4) and Thoughtography (6).

Psi-Optics: small lenses used by guards to check auras of visitors, works particularly well when the auras have been stamped by mystic manipulation.
Psi-power used: See Aura (6).

Zappers: These non-lethal weapons similar to stun guns are issued to many guards and agents of the Court. Each arc of electricity follows a copper thread or a laser beam from the weapon to its target. The stunning bolts are effective against humans, demons, and even non-corporeal creatures. This versatility compensates for low damage potential. The psi-mechanics at Edison Park have produced many different models of zappers over the decades, from zappers hidden inside umbrellas to laser sight-equipped modern weapons. The range varies with model from touch to 20 feet (6m) away.
Psi-power used: Electrokinesis (8).

Sleep batons: These non-lethal weapons are standard issue for guards of the Court and often used in their ceremonies. In the hand of a non-psychic, this device functions like an overly-complex club. When used by a psychic who can utilize psi-devices, this weapon provides an extra power. When activated with I.S.P., the baton will ooze with a glowing blue energy field. Even non-corporeal creatures like entities are subject to the sleep effect, producing a state of suspended animation.
Psi-power used: Induce Sleep (4)

Psi-Defibrillator: Harold Dean created the prototype of this strange device when he was still a working as a paramedic and had not yet realized he was a psi-mechanic. According to his own theory, the prototype could activate latent healing energy... It doesn't really matter, because his theory was crackpot-nonsense anyway. What he actually did was stumble upon a way to channel multiple psychic powers from the healing and physical categories through a single psi-device. The original psi-defibrillator is the size of a large pick-up truck and has to be towed to where it can be used. Mercenaries in the employ of the Court have used it, but it is far too impractical for most missions. ...In a year's time, they managed to miniaturize the design to the form of a 50 pound (22.7 kg) back-pack with shock pads which may be carried and used by a single medic. The goal is to miniaturize it the size to five pounds (2.3 kg) or less.
Psi-powers used: Stop Bleeding (Others; 4), Deaden Pain (4), Healing Touch (6), and Summon Inner Strength (4).

Thomas Edison's special pocket watch: Mister Edison's favorite psi-device was his self-correcting pocket watch. This watch would pull I.S.P. from him while he slept and reset itself for the correct time every morning. It even would reset itself automatically if Edison were to carry it from one time zone to another.
Psi-power used: Sense Time (2).

More details about each of these designs is in the Court of Tarot Errata article which should be appearing any day now at Nexus Nine.net.

Thank you, Lord Z.

I want to develop other ones outside the canon list of available powers, too. I like the ones you post here. Thanks for them.

Both of her BtS characters can trace their roots to Dr. Egon Spangler with startling amounts of Dr. Ray Stantz infusions.
