equipment?

Unread post by ZorValachan »

Is there no equipment section in the BTS-2 book? I know the P.C.C.s all have equipment guns/damage etc. in them, but besides a short mention of how A.R. and S.D.C. work in the combat section (mentioning leather and modern body armour), i do not see even the 'standard' cut and paste list for armours.

You're correct, there is no equipment section.
Which sucks if you don't have any other "modern" settings, which are mostly out of date for now anyway.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure my eyes weren't missing anything.

I've been adding to a BTS-2 Rifter submission about ways to spice up the mundane (non magical/supernatural/mystical) aspects of the game and was working on stats for modern combat armour. I just didn't want to add anything redundant

That seems like an interesting article, Zor. I can see many different approaches you could take with that topic, and all of them would be fun.

Quick rundown on what I'm writing about.

1) A more detailed look at occupations in Anthropology/Archaeology and Forensic Science (mystery solvers of the ancient/modern kind) a few new skills to go with these.
2) Some common sense in investigations in the modern era (you do something like fighting and you will leave evidence that can and will be used against you)
3) How skeptics and stage magicians are actually useful in investigations. They can see past scams and misdirections. Skeptics do not = Negapsychics. They can change their minds when evidence is clearly presented.
4) A system to have skills go higher than 98% (roll of 99 or 00 is always a failure), but I present how different conditions may lower or raise a skill roll (so a person with a 150% would be better repairing a car in a blizzard than a person with a 98% or a person doing a task without stress could do a skill easier) Weather, Time, Tools, and Stress are taken into account
5) Armour -Ancient, sports gear (hey football gear would offer -some- protection vs the nasty), and modern armour.
Alternate rule where armour only absorbs a certain amount of damage, the rest is trauma suffered by the character.
5a) Even though this is mainly a BTS-2 article I added how to do this with M.D.C. armour and how to find a middle ground between 'when you are down to 1 M.D.C.' and either the next 1 M.D. point kills you or the G.I. Joe rule saves you from the boom gun.

*BTW: My background is Anthropology-Archaeology and my brother, who is also a gamer, is a Firearms and Toolmark Examiner. So, I'm not pulling all this out of my ...

Until a proper source comes out for BTS-2, there is a load of goods available in the Dead Reign book.

Zor, Prince Artemis has been discussing a book about the equipment used by real-life paranormal investigators. You might want to get with him to compare notes. The best ways to reach him are sending an e-mail to rifter0 at gmail dot com or dropping in on a recording of Gateway to the Megaverse on Mondays.

I'm a fan of damage absorbtion armor rules. It seems to me that the current hit-based armor rating rules are made to simulate an attacker trying to find a weak spot in the target's armor. The problem is that there is already a rule mechanic in the game representing exactly that; it's the called shot rule.

Skills above 100% have been around at least since Road Hogs came out. Unfortunately, they have been restricted only to piloting skills. The same logic should apply to any skill with a percentile score, and I have no idea why this hasn't been applied to all skills even as updated editions to rules are released.

More Occupations are welcome -- at least to me it makes more sense than more classes. I was going to include a Business Person occupation in Court of Tarot, but I cut it for space.

The sports-armor could be a lot of fun.

Overall, it looks like a great article. I hope you are having fun with it.
