Do magic items resize themselves to fit a new owner.
Just curious. :)

They only resize themselves only if they specifically say they do in the descriptive text.

The only ones I can think of off hand are the Thumblers in R9.5.

It's hard to say.

While there isn't anything specific in the description for the vast majority of magic items that says whether or not they re-size themselves, there ARE vast, vast numbers of items strewn throughout Palladium's many books which say something along the lines of "Timmy the Hundred-Handed Giant has in his possession one of the legendary and wondrous Rings Of Elder -a rare, Gantrium-forged artifact that allows it wearer to cast blah blah spells blah blah times per day without exhausting their own PPE."

This leads me to believe that the Authors don't explicitly remember to put the disclaimer in front of every piece of magic gear ever created, but rather that it should be assumed that virtually ANY piece of magical gear worn by a character, NPC or what-have-you should scale up and down with the creature.

  • The Gods in the Palladium books Dragons and Gods and Pantheons of the Megaverse, nearly ALL of which possess various forms of magical gear from Weapons to Armor to various forms of Magical Jewelry.....and all of those gods can change their size, metamorphosize, or both. One assumes, for example, that Odin's Gungnir, Thor's Mjolnir, and Poseidon's Trident go up and down with them, whether we are told that they do or not.
(Just the mental image of someone like Thor trying to threaten the enemy with a 1:6 scale version of his hammer that stays human-sized while he grows to the height of a small office building is a laugh in and of itself. Likewise if he's shrunk himself down to human-size but his hammer is still big enough to take up almost all of a pickup truck's flatbed.)
  • Barrtk Krror, a defender of Tolkeen in its last days and a Dragon King. He constantly wears a TW Cyber-eye to replace the one he lost; it is not explicitly stated to change size, but he wears the device constantly in both Dragon and Human forms. (See also Goezumi, who is a Dragon Hatchling who cannot yet transform into a human form for whatever reason; he wears a ring that allows him to do so, and he wears it in both forms.)

Verdict: If the item is magical, and UNLESS it explicitly says that it always remains the same size -for example, the petrified parts of Osiris -assume that it will auto-scale to fit its new owner. Which is, of course, a good thing for any characters who win this gear by defeating its previous master.
