Demon Hunter: Something worth reading

Unread post by DtMK »

Here's an excerpt from my review of Armageddon Unlimited in the Heroes Unlimited forum. I think the part about the Demon Hunter would be most welcome in the BtS setting. Check it out!

The other new class, the Demon Hunter, this made me pause. Fans of PB will recognize this name from Mystic China, Rifts China, and even Rifter #19. What, another one!? Are you sure this particular horse is dead or undead yet, hence a reason to keep beating it every few years? Hold on, keep reading, it'll be worth it. This new class adds to the Special Training category in a welcome way. Ordinary people who know the supernatural is real, who combat it with martial arts, lore skills, a touch of circle magic for protection and voila! It's definitely a version not overpowered, not as crazy as their Chinese counterparts, and a perfect sign that people can stumble into this life by heredity or circumstance. These are the people fighting the shadow war without any powers, just knowledge and a can-do attitude! Very fun, and if you throw the Rifter #19 Demon Hunters into the mix, you have a varied class all by themselves. Chosen by fate, destiny, a legacy or by a mystical council, this version of the Demon Hunter is a great non-powered addition, not a rehashing. Plus, it makes circle magic, even a lesser version, accessible. The only downside is that this version feels like it may be better in Beyond the Supernatural than Heroes Unlimited, making people yearn more for supplements to that series. But on its own, it could be one of the best crossover, low powered classes to be created in quite some time. Thumbs up!

Glad to help. I think it'll rekindle interest into BtS, and the Demon Hunters could be their own class with the variety of the MC, Rifter and now this version.

Sooo, Palladium keeps using the same name for different classes. It seems to me that the editing crew (Kevin, Wayne, & probably Alex) are growing unfamiliar with their own product lines.

Then again, I never Rifter 19, so maybe I'm missing something.

To be honest, due to the no conversions policy, I had to make sure I didn't make any reference to a couple brothers driving an Impala. Honestly, it's the first thing I thought of. Not to say that it's bad mind you, it's actually quite fitting. God, this is so hard not to reference source material and not be flagged for conversion speak.
