Diary of a Wandering Psychic 04

Unread post by thorr-kan »

(OOC: In May 08, I, my wife, and a dozen of our best friends rented two vans and spent two weeks driving all over England and Scotland. In that time, we covered some of the more interesting areas I read in BTS 1-ed, lo, those many years ago. Note: Pictures! Someday I’ll get these scanned and online.)

10 May 2008:

I have safely made it to Gargunnock, Scotland. It’s a beautiful little Scottish village. And within 10 minutes of checking into the Gargunnock House, everyone in the local pub knew an American was in town. The drive up from Wales was long, with several very interesting stops.

On 9 May, I stopped in Glastonbury. Glastonbury is full of The Crazy. I blame Glastonbury Tor.

Glastonbury is the New Age center of Great Britain. There is an old hillock here that has been fortified since time out of mind. Legend has it that the Holy Grail was stored here. Other legends link it to Merlin, Arthur, the druids, the bards, the Roman occupation, and others. These legends have drawn “believers” from all over Creation to Glastonbury, convinced that there is some metaphysical truth to be discovered here.

There is not.

But there is something here, something dark and threatening. I think something was bound here once upon a time.

I detected no ley lines nor any nexi in Glastonbury. But the Tor seethes with a dark energy, much like a nexus. I believe prolonged exposure to this affects even the least sensitive population. I spent the entire time in Glastonbury shielded, which limited my observations.

Later that day I visited Cheddar Gorge, which the cheese is named after. The old cheese caves are active again, after centuries of disuse. Their product is pricey, but quite tasty. The town is a terrible tourist trap, but the air was much less oppressive than Glastonbury. Further up the gorge are some fabulous rock faces. While I am not a heights person, clambering around the cliffs and scaring the goats was fun.

I think Bethany would have enjoyed my tomfoolery.

That evening, I stopped at a small archeological dig at Hadrian’s Wall. Foundations and some walls have been excavated, giving one a sense of the settlement’s scale. It was a trading town, and there are a huge number of artifacts. I could not actually handle them. But their history was plain to anyone with my sensitivity.

It was very late when I arrived at Gargunnock House. Today, I shall tour the grounds and local village. I’m told the gardens here are quite famous. At first glance, they are quite beautiful.

There are supposed to be trout in the local hills. Hmmm…
