It's a great idea.

Id suggest a group of the zealotry following them and ambushing periodically along their journey.

Do the zealotry try and recruit the player thief to steal the books for them? a true double agent player can be really fun!

The zealotry (hope Im spelling that right btw?) could launch and all out assault of the LoB and all the guardians are gather in its defense. At the end some of the guardians may have died and the players can take their place as rewards.

So what about the books? Are there any magical books (tome of northen winter etc.) or rune books, or is one the legendary book of heroes!
Do any passages in any of the books give a hook line and sinker to a nearby treasure trove (buried, sunken, stolen, stored..). what if one of the books was written as part o the tristine chronicles only it depicts 4 adventurers brave and true journey at haste to stop the every hastening assault of the last great library. The account seems to be unravelling exactly as the adventurers are proceeding only the last page is: 1. Missing! 2. Bads news for the library (can time be re-written - does the book change with time? Is that what the tristine chronicles do??) 3. Good news for the library but all of the adventurers die (again, must this come to pass?).....

The mix of adventurers is good. If the diabolist isnt sure (diabolist and books = good) and wants to play a wizard, I would through in a rare magic spell book for some novelties for him to learn.

I think this is a damned good idea for a campaign. Has an epic feel to it, like there's more going on behind the scenes than the players are aware of. Like what are these books they've discovered, and how was it that they were hidden/forgotten for so long? Is someone or something a little peeved about the characters taking them back to the Library? Could this person/entity decide to try and distract the players by having one or more of the seed libraries attacked, thus drawing the characters/guardians away from Bletherad so that one can be attacked?

Great idea for a campaign. Please keep us posted on how this runs and turns out.

PS: I'm actually sad that I can't be a player in this campaign. This would be awesome to be part of.

ah man, Id be up for a PBP game.

Btw I would stick clear of hatchlings but its not my game. I do always seem to have one fly away power creep player anyway.

What stops the players from hawking the books to the highest bidder instead?

Alignment, doing the "right " thing, etc. You are right. Nothing really to stop them.
Great campaign idea

Beldurwen wrote:Hi All,

Please be Gentle with me as this is my first time posting here lol.

Essentially my idea is to run a campaigan where the PC's get recruited into the Guardians of Bletherad and then move to end up saving either the Library of Bletherad or one of the other Seed Libraries. I plan on the PC's finding an old Elven ruin the Northern Hinterlands that dates back to the Elf-Dwarf War and after a bit of exploring the PC's will find a stash of books that once belonged Wizard of some power. Hopefully after realizing the historical significance of the books the PC's will take the collection to the Library of Bletherad and thereby come to the attention of the Guardians.

What do you all think of this idea? Any suggestions as to what I can do to improve this idea?

One of the characters is a human mind mage modeled on the character Daniel Jackson from Stargate, the mind mage's guide is a Wolfen Barbarian, another is going to be either a human thief or assassin, and the final character will be either a spell caster of some sort or a Diabolist. What suggestions would any of you make as to the composition of the group?

I like it. There is a lot of potential for people who hear about the discovery to cause trouble on the way to the library.

I'd toss in a group of wolfen from the Empire who are under the impression there might be a clue in the books as to what happened to the Wolfen that made the Rune Lantern. Maybe give a good opportunity for the wolfen barbarian to get into character.

If you need to keep the group on task just have the mind mage have a premonition of receiving a great reward from the library for turning over the books. Maybe not even all the books but perhaps there is a notable history book in there that the library would find interesting or maybe there is a cypher in that book that helps to reveal the location of other seed libraries..

Yeah great premise for a game. I hope you and the players get to play it out!

Hey Belderwen - welcome to the forums!

This story hook sounds really cool and, I for one, am looking forward to getting play updates/logs. I would echo the Dark Elf and shy away from allowing a dragon hatchling - RIFTS yes, PFRPG not so much.

Keep us posted and have fun!

I would follow the others saying a dragon hatchling is very powerful, and the other players might not like having such an unbalanced character in their midst.
and here's a random book generator so the players can try and decide which titles are the most important.
http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=705
is elvish fonts so you can print out a big list of books in elvish, and hand over the translation if they can reas/write elven.
or dwarvish
http://www.dafont.com/tolkien-dwarf-runes.font
and google translate is also good for book titles as well. I use Arabic a lot for this, as it looks cool and I don't play with anyone that can read it.
eg
is
thief without direction
traitor of the banished
blacksmiths of the ancestors
criminals of the frontline
robots and lords
giants and heirs
carnage of the banished
confinement of rainbows
praised by nightmares
shelter in the moon
