Melee only....unless you houserule it.

The only ranged attacks it applies to are projectile weapons(knives, arrows, rocks, etc) and natural ranged attacks (energy beams that come from the hands/eyes etc). P.P. bonuses don't apply to firearms or any weapon that uses a modern weapon proficiency.
