Hey all I'm making a list of the ammo that appears in the palladium system and expanding on it and Comming up with some Recon stats as well. I know it's an incomplete draft but it should point people in the right directions.
Palladium Ammunition List
This is a list of ammunition appearing in various Palladium books publications and a few that are new to the Palladium system. I am listing these by the size of the bullet going from smallest to largest. With each entry I am including known bullet types and giving an example of a weapon chambering the caliber of Ammunition used.
Pistol Cartridges
5.45X18mm: a necked down version of the 9X18mm Makarov. Long assumed to be some sort of armor piercing assassination round. Recent research indicates that its primary users are actually high ranking officers. It comes in two different bullet types a lead cored FMJ round(MPTs) and a FMJ with a steel core(MPTs-2). Still the 37(2.4 grams) to 40(2.6 grams) grain bullet weight and 1,000 FPS(315mps).

Ammunition list

Re: Ammunition list
Off the top of my head. Are we sticking only to modern, smokeless cartridges? I would try to stay away from "wildcats" that are hand loaded by 3 people in the world. I think your idea of finding a firearm that is commerically available in the specified cartridge is a good one.
.22 Short pretty much exclusive to specialized target pistols. Can be fired by some .22 LR pistols or revolvers.
7.62 x 45mm vz. 52 Czech service rifle round
16 and 28 Guage were at one time more popular Shotgun loads then they are today. 28 Guage still is popular with some wing shooters.
.35 Remington -Would be useful for "Roaring Twenties" era games.
Japanese 7mm Nambu
Japanese 7.7×58mm Arisaka - You have all of the German small arms calibers but none of the Japanese(or Italian)?
.30-30 One of the most popular N. American hunting cartiridges at one time.
.270 Winchester (or 6.8x65mm)
.45-70 Government
.30-40 Krag
6.5×55mm Swedish Mauser
I could go on and on but the best thing to do is buy a used copy of the Compendium of Modern Firearms (Edge of the Sword Vol. 1) by Kevin Dockery who is an actual gunsmith.
More food for thought.

Re: Ammunition list
Right now it's just a draft that has various rounds from the Compendium of Contemporary weapons and a couple that seemed to have a high chicks dig it factor like the 4.7X33 round from the H&K MP7.
I've been trying to get some basic stats down and then expand the page. I'm not going to even try to end up with something like Paul Mulcahy's pages. That's just too much work and not enough time or money.

Depends what your goal is. Types of weapons/calibers is setting dependent. If you are running a WWII era game you are going to need all the Allied and Axis caliber weapons. Other then that 7.92 Kurtz isn't going to really come up. Maybe in a 1960-70s Merc campaign.
.35 Remington was used by many gangsters and lawmen in the 1920s now it is a obsolete cartridge.
and so on....
