Genesis Pits-- any opinions?

So, I'm considering ordering the genesis pits, but before I do so, could current owners answer a few questions?

1. How applicable is it to settingss that don't include/radically change the shadow chronicles story line?

2. Can the mutation rules be used to kitbash aliens-- intelligent or otherwise?

3. (and you can spoil this) What in general is the tak on the mentioned robotech masters and zentraedi. It's stated that they're mutated-- are they recognizable, or are we talking shambling monstrosities that really have no similarity except that they were originally zentraedi and Tirolean?

I know we have one mecha that isn't visually depicted-- any other mecha or spaceships?

Thanks!

What if we say no? (Kidding!)

Reasonably... it doesn't include that much RTSC-specific information, once you've discounted the SDF-4 and Icarus specs near the back. It's mostly just a creature generator/bestiary for the New Generation.

mech798 wrote:2. Can the mutation rules be used to kitbash aliens-- intelligent or otherwise?

Yeah, you could do that with what's in there relatively easily between the creature generator tools and mutant stuff.

Just a few tidbits here and there about survivors during the Invid occupation, and some ridiculous mutant living version of the Bioroid. (Not the pilot, the mecha itself...)

The one-off SDF-4 "Liberator" (Izumo in the original) and the Shimakaze-class escort.

given the appearance and described traits of bioroid musculature, i could buy them using an organic based artificial muscle, which the invid could alter to pevert the bioroid into a living entity. if it helps make the concept more palitable, you could assume the bioroid pilots were mutated as well, and the resulting entity is a horrible blend of pilot and altered bioroid musculature which has been forcegrown to fill out the artificial skeleton, armor, and systems of a bioroid.

When I read though the entry on that bioroid mutant that's what I assumed had happened: that the Pit had merged the pilot with it's partially-organic pilot.

Heh, good thing Athanas hadn't fallen into the Pit that we found. There's no telling if I could've resisted...

In short, kids, don't mess around with alien steroids.

reports of one such bioroid screaming "kaneda!" are unconfirmed.

Agreed, but give the mecha to genuine post-apocalyptic/dystopia street punks, and you may have something. :D

part 4?

i've got parts 1-3 on DVD, didn't know there was a part 4.

part 1 isn't bad, it just didn't age well in terms of pacing and character design. (it is very 80's..)
part 2 wasn't bad from a story perspective, but the art shift was.. really really creepy.
part 3 just took the story down a very odd rabbit hole.

Part III was a two-parter itself, that might be what they mean by part IV.

I am running a New Generation Era Sandbox campaign and we were short 2 players from the normal group. I whipped out Genesis Pits and had a search and rescue turn into OMFG we are trapped in a prehistoric hell. The players dug it and we had a lot of fun. I used every fun thing in that book. One of the better sessions in recent times for us.

Yep, Genesis Pits are the perfect Robotech Dungeon Crawl without the looting opportunities(aside from salvaging any carcasses/wrecks or maybe stealing Protoculture).

Yes, you should buy it. And I'm totally not saying that just because I have four pieces of artwork in it.

Okay. Yes. That's totally why I'm saying that.

And one of the planets mentioned in it is a reference to Heart of Darkness.

I hear next book, there's going to be a planetary setting referencing the musicals of Steven Sondheim!
