I am trying to make an explosive ward and for a game. I remember there was one either on the board or in a Rifter a long LONG time ago.

What do you want out of it? If you want it to move things around, I'd make something like "Force" ward that does a d4 damage/level, and forces a save to avoid being pushed back X feet (to range, or AoE if attached to an AoE ward).

I like it. But I would say 1D8 per level for any one caught with in 2 feet, 1D6 2-4, and 1d4 for 5-10 feet, everyone else gets to make a save to avoid being forced back. Should there be a sound attached? What should be used to carve it or paint it? Should be something rare and hard to acquire. Also, should the subject of lobbing cannon balls come up...What should be the distance and max number be before said cannon give out and dies?

So, you're wanting to make the ward literally function like explosives?

As for a cannon for that, I would say it very much depends on what the cannon is made out of, and how the cannon works. I wouldn't let "cannon" be a default option with the ward, though.

It makes me wonder if permanence wards are the only wards that can be used to influence spells. It'd be interesting if you could cast a spell and tie it to a trigger ward so that the spell didn't initiate until the ward went off.

The Nazca have something like that as well but so far as I know it only works with other Nazca drawings, not spells in general.

Yes Mark, that was the general idea. But it needs to have a mixture of rare components that are very hard to acquirer. Although, I am not sure how they could do a cannon or how it would be effected by them. But at this point it's irreverent. I have an idea of how I would do it though. I am GMing, so I'm not permitted to say.

Hummm, that would be interesting Tor. Why don't you do a write up on it?

It may be possible, just not with current knowlage. It's stated somewhere in palladium fantasy that there are many lost wards and power circles created by the minions of the old ones or the old ones themselves. It's easy to imagine one of them came up with it and it was just lost in the aftermath of the war.

Or in the age of magic.

Why do you think it needs very rare ingredients? And do you mean "rare" (difficult to find) or simply "non-standard" (not something most diabolists/alchemists are likely to try, because they're not used in most wards)?

Hard to acquire them all, because I don't want it used for everything. So, if they have to work for a long time to raise money for the stuff or risk life and limb to acquire them all then they are much less likely to want to use them for everything and far more likely to be very choosey about when they use it.
