Would you buy a Nightbane short story novel?

I have loved Nightbane a ton but I dont think that this avenue has really been explored. I was wondering if there is a fan base (Palladium and otherwise) that would love stories about survival, success, evil and love etc. etc... with a heavy Nightbane theme?

It would depend... I read one in one of the Rifters and I wasn't a fan of it. I'd be open to it, but the only example I can think of didn't impress me.

There have been a few attempts in the Rifter for Nightbane stories... one-shots and a serial that only went 4 or 5 parts. Overall, the idea isn't a bad one, but the writing needs to be good... and even then it won't appeal to all fans (there will always be some who feel it doesn't capture what they feel is important in the setting).

Don't let this discourage you from trying though... writing stories isn't easy, but when you succeed it can be one of the most rewarding endeavors you can achieve. Besides... most fans here are likely to give you a fair shot... and even help with honest critiques so that you can improve.

See this is what I am thinking. I have read several vampire, werewolf, zombie etc. stories and I believe that it would be a good group of stories. Perhaps it might even inspire some new books (or netbooks).

Let me rephrase my answer - I would enjoy reading a good Nightbane story.

I would love a novel in this setting. Whether we ever see it in print? Doubtful.

I'd probably give it a miss. I'm not a fan of spinoff novels to begin with, and Palladium's previous ventures into the world of fiction were... well, let's just say there are good reasons why Adam Chilson's not an internationally famous author yet.

Buy, write . . . it's all good.

Not sure I'd buy one . . . Too many variables for a simple yes/no answer. But buy into the idea of one? Sure. Or writing one myself? Absolutely, with a few adjustments, if allowed. The Nightbane setting is too awesome not to, in my opnion.

A similar idea was "considered" by fans for Beyond the Supernatural 2 a few years back too, though I haven't heard what became of that.

Last I checked, admittedly a few years ago as well, was polite disinterest.

I once had an idea for a anthology of stories... based on different factions and their struggles in the Nightbane world. Unfortunately I never got past the planning phase of which factions and stories to write... never made it to the actual stories themselves.

I had a similar idea with Rifts (basing the stories on the World Books) and Heroes Unlimited (based off of each Power Category and sub category)... with similar results too (got the basic premise of each story, but didn't get to the stories themselves).

Maybe it is time to revisit these ideas and see where they lead me.

I would like 10 - 15 short stories by various authors in one volume.

I would prefer in print, but I'd settle for digital too.

Would I "Buy" one? Never.
But I would definitely give it a read (or a skim at and the ending a read to see if it suits how I see the nightbane world and how hopefully horror novel cliche tropes the finale is) if it looked promising. IF it had killer art inserts and a H*******R level detail to the story and horror then along with the above then I would consider buying it(thinking 120 pages+)

If you are planning on doing it Light Novel style then I'd recommend internet only publishing, also get an highly critical horror novel editor or friend to review and critique it, usually takes 40 or 50 revisions to have something publish worthy :C

I could see writing a PFRPG short story. Love the Nightbane books but not sure I could do them justice.

Actually wait, I might be interested if Palladium ever did some franchise novels through a real publisher.

The older I get, the more I enjoy short stories rather than long novels or series of novels. A short story is plenty long to explore an idea, but to short for the story to get bogged down.

I know these days we love a good idea and this is one of them. I want to get in the writing freelance. I think that it would create ideas and new books that should be written. Especially now that Palladium Books is looking to new ideas. It took a year for Fear The Boot to do it, why can't we?

What would you say to a contest that rewarded the writers a published PDF of their work with a compilation of other writers?

You say "published" pdf, does that mean there will be money involved, too?

I would say "that's a great idea if you want to attract no professional writers at all and are just trying to create an anthology of Rifter-level fanfic that no real publisher would touch".

What I aim to do it create a something that could generate money and an excitement for the game. I want Palladium to succeed and find new avenues of revenue. If there was stories in Nightbane about different places and people, it would introduce new places that could be new books, new Rifter articles.... I am saying that this vein is still untapped.

What you aim to do is get writers to work for free. The only "contest" a writer should have to get in is the usual submissions process, and the "reward" he should be playing for is a juicy paycheck for a successful sale.
