Killed it, skinned it, and wanting to make armor...
I am not sure how to proceed with this idea a player had? We killed 7 gruunors, found basically eggs pods, almost killed the queen...we wounded her well enough, then removed the hard exoskeletons from the 7 we killed, how do we proceed? Leatherworker, smith, alchemist, or what? Also how much will an alchemist pay for the eggs?
Re: Killed it, skinned it, and wanting to make armor...
It would need a certain amount of tanning/cleaning up, and as it wouldn't perfectly fit it would need a tanner, leatherworker and an armourer. This would be best done by specialists rather then pc's who are amateurs.
Unless you want it enchanted of course.
I'd give it stats like splint armour with double the sdc and half the weight, with only half the sdc damage done to it at anytime being able to be repaired, so the max sdc would slowly go down (eg it takes 10 point of damage and gets repaired, but can only go up to 5, so the total fully fixed sdc has been reduced by 5). As its a natural ar I'd also think about giving it say 5 point of damage reduction (First 5 point of damage to it is ignored per blow).

Sounds very cool. Some stats on this would be nice ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

I am considering having mine enchanted to where it will slowly repair itself...1 SDC per min or something like that. I'm going to talk to the GM about it and see what she says. Been nice being back in Tennessee, and helping my friend to deal with stuff for a change. It's usually him who helps me out with stuff.

There are a couple of creatures that give stats for making armour from their remains. I'll see if I can find which ones and what the rules were for it.

Waghalter in LOD1.
2D4 hours to butcher. Then bring to a tanner to prepare. Then to an armourer to make into armour. Total cost is 1000 gold for armour with 60 SDC and AR 16 with no movement penalties. That's the only creature I can find that gives a process. The rest just give stats for final armour.

Tanning is also a fairly lengthy process, you won't be getting the armour from whatever it is very quickly.
Using pre-prepared leather can take from 3 days to a week to make a full suit leather for someone, so making gruunor armour would likely be time consuming if you didn't want to be walking around in rotting stinking armour.

One thing to remember is that tanning things requires the right mix of chemicals.
So unless you happen to both know the correct formula AND have it on hand... you might not be able to preserve the leather before it 'goes bad'

The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

Maybe, but I'm not sure a tanner would be able to work insect exoskeleton with a natural AR of 16 when opened and 19 when balled up. And same might be true of a smith

By the way, 3 days-a week? I seriously question where you got that info? Lime for a fortnight to easily remove the hair...then tanning part...which takes about 12 months in water and (was it oak or sassafras bark he said, I can't remember which one) then soaked male urine and like 3 or more things else to harden it. But hey, when you hangout with Shannon long enough you start to pick up on some interesting facts.

If you actually read what was written he's talking about using pre-prepared leather.

Well they would figure something out because the Fyr-Kree can be turned into Armour with an AR of 18, and the inside bits of the shell would need some sort of treatment, not to mention treating the whole thing so it doesn't rot away.

Oh, pre-prepared leather. Duh, yeah. Truly sorry, was in a rush when I read it. And yeah, that's true enough. It will need treated.
