Starting a campaign and one of my pc wants to be a shifter. Has anyone made or come up with a good way for rolling for his minions. Have all the books so trying to figure out a way to be able to randomly roll for where his portal is opening to and then what creature comes out.

While it's supposed be random, I'd allow a bit of role-play during the summoning. Such as if the player has something in mind, he can attempt to 'search' for it. Such as he has a 5% chance of finding what he's looking for, rolled each 15 minutes (senior Shifters would get a better percentage chance). And as a risk he may attract an unwanted creature, causing a quick battle of wills to stop it from coming through.

That way the player gets a bit of control over what he summons, if he's willing to put in the time and effort. Purely random rolls carry a lot risk (to the player and the campaign).

Pg 57-60 of Dimension Book 7 (Megaverse Builder) has a pretty impressive table.

Prior to that, there was a chart on page 126-127 of Beyond the Supernatural under the Dimensional Portal spell to see what would come through if you left it open.

BTS also had a random monster table on page 190 similar to what the Rifts 1990 book had in the back (I think they removed that in RUE?)

Theres really nothing random about summoning for shifters but if you are concerned from a balance point then just speak with the player or give a list of things that dont overbalance the game. Communication rift will tell you exactly if you have contacted the being you are looki g for and a simple demon monster lore role can be used to determine if the character knows about what he wants to summon. Other than that a ley line can easily be used to draw from to do a couple rifts per hour until you get what you want.

I would change 'minions" to 'a familiar' and use the bird or lizard biotechs as his F. They are stated as available as Fs.
