Apprenticeships for what? There's a lot of different OCCs that you might apprentice for, and they're all going to have different general approaches.
For example, I tend to have Summoners kidnap or purchase their apprentices. The real test of a summoner is to break free of their master... get enough hair or nail clippings or other body pieces to Summon them using Summon Pawn, and force an agreement from them.

If going on what they were on earth, then 5-7 years of serving a master, and then passing a skills test to become a journeyman. then traveling about working for other masters, then passing the master's test.
In the PF world, for most occupations would be 2nd or 3rd year apprentice.
But for Mages/Wizards reach level 1 at the end of their apprenticeship. Just like the core game book says/says w/o say it directly/implying......

I use those who have turned 10 since the start of the year, but in reality everything in palladium is so easy to learn you could get away with - I was a Thief last month and now im a level 2 Wizard. So maybe a week or 2 training going by the class change rules.

And the changing class rules got a bit in question with the publishing of the MoM 1 book cause it talks about how wizards are trained. And it says it takes years to learn how to be a wizard.
If >with me as the GM< a player wanted have his char change to a mage class via the published changing class rules I would limit the change to the Forsaken Mage class. Because that is the class they are limited to by the text in the MoM book.
