Plastic is better than either; metal is heavier, hard to mod, and hard to glue. Resin melts or becomes brittle, depending on temperature.

Dang Fenris...where do you live? I experience +40C to -40C, and I've never seen a resin mini melt. (No, I have no A/C.)
That all being said, I prefer lead to pewter, and metal to plastic or resin.
We'd likely still be using lead even today, were it not for that idiot that started eating parts from his figs when they were lost in game.

As for modding, lead is easy to modify. Bends beautifully, cuts easily, and takes glue well (although heavier parts do occasionally require pinning).

I'm not a connoisseur when it comes to minis.
I know jack-all about materials.

All I can say is that the cheaper the figurines are, the more likely I'd be interested in buying some,
but that quality is also an issue in that I don't want things that fall apart, bend, warp, etc.

Warped or bent plastic is easy to straighten; just heat up a cup of water to near boiling, dip the part for a few seconds, and voila! Part straightened. You can do a little bending of the hot part if you want it to bend or fit a certain way. You can even make tea with the hot water after.

I prefer resin/plastic to metal, myself, though I agree with KC; price is more of a factor than materials.

Missed the window for the poll. Any news on what figures are getting made? Another good reason to go with resin is to make to-scale giant robots more feasible. A 5" or 6" tall bot in metal would be a huge pain to assemble and cost a small fortune.

Frankly, I'd be pretty darned happy if Palladium hooked up with one of those companies that makes Green Plastic Army Men, and had a bunch of plastic rifts figures of the same cheap quality and inconvenient size.
100 figures for around $15-$20 would be much more likely to interest me than would much higher quality figurines that cost $1 each or more.

But I may well not be the target audience.

I love my shiny Glitter Boy sitting on my desk, but building a squad of 6 such beautiful Glitter Boys would cost over $200. If Palladium could sell those resin/plastic minis for half of what they do or less, I would totally build a squad of them. I might even try making some kit-bashed variants.

Of the two, resin is far easier to convert... so, resin.

But, honestly, plastic is the way to go.

I checked the prerelease schedule. They went with resin. Nothing too exciting yet, but I'll be optimistic for future releases (c'mon Titan Robots!).
