Modern day jobs...

Just think of how much a telepath in a large city could make as a stylist/hairdresser. A psychic healer as a chiropractor. Mage with cure minor disorder who is a massage therapist.

I love these kind of discussions. :)
In fact, I like them so much that I've written a sort of "Regular Day Job" Occupation to fit this kind of thinking. I plan for it to appear in the upcoming "GM & Players guide" Kevin and I are working on.

A Psychic Diviner as a K-9 Officer; both psychic and dog tracking both objects and people down is a potent combo.

This sort of thing is one of the best part of BTS. Day jobs/cover identities that fit the characters.

Truthfully the cover job / occupation is more important in BTS than it is in say a Heroes Unlimited. Since powers are so limited you need to use the skills and resources of the PCs job to drive a lot of the scenario.

In the games I have played the day job (being a reporter or owning an antique store) started the plot and I only used the powers a couple of times in the entire game.

Same style here Warshield. BTS works well for even playing a "version" of yourself and your friends in a game. I only popped in for a game or two, but I had friends that did a sort of Buffy style game using college age versions of their HS selves.

other than the BTS2 core book, other places that have civilian job skill sets within the games that use the PB gaming system are in Systems Failure core book and the RT2 Macross story-arc book.

I think Dead Reign has it too. I am actually in the middle of adapting this system for Heroes Unlimited as I hate the skill program system but it is slow going.

It does, and I use them a lot in my BTS game

Does it work as is or do you have to make some modifications?

The only text from DR that I have, is that what was published in The Rifter.

Just remembered something... The PCC in the NB core book called "The Psychic" gives three skills slots to use for the char's 'Day Job' skills.

The "official" Lemurian Citizen from Rifter 58 can work, particularly if one changes the water skills such as Pilot:Water Scooters into more generic equivalents.

Somewhere I've got an Excel file listing the "day jobs" from BtS2, DR, and Macross to see what the different occupations are. There's a lot in common, but they aren't all the same.

And of course, the details of even the same ones differ a bit.

Release it into the wild, for others to see and use, on a website that I don't *totally* control? Are you MAD?!

Let me see if it's fit for prime time, and I'll shoot it your way. Thanks for the generous offer!

I know how you feel but it would certainly save me a lot of time when I try to make some modifications to the system.

And don't worry, House of BTS will take care of it like it's there very own.

I meant it as a vote of confidence but it sort of sounds like I'm implying you are a thief. I realized the word choice could have been better.

Seriously though your sight is why I got back into BTS in the first place and the only reason I started running it at cons. Well All's Quiet and Operation Minotaur helped.

Warshield, curious minds (me) want to know:

When and where did you run "All Quiet"?

How did it go?

In February of 2020 I ran Operation Minotaur at Rice University's OwlCon in Houston. I had 7 or so players signed up but one dropped out due to the pandemic but it went great. The players loved it and I had a great time especially with the PC's that I got.

I had planned to run All Quiet this year but the convention was cancelled due to Covid but I will run it at the next, non-POH, convention I attend.

To be picky there's actually a lot of OCC/RCCs that are Civilians. They're in just about in every game. They just usually represent specific occupations. If you're looking for generic Civilian OCCs though here a few more.

RT 1E B4 Southern Cross: Tyrolian Citizen.
RT 1E B5 Invid Invasion :Non Military Personnel
RT 1E B7 New World Order: Civilian
RT 2E Masters Sourcebook: Tyrolian Civilian
Rifts WB36 Sovietski: Sovietski Citizen
Rifts Sovietski RAW (Above but different/more generic.)
Surviving Chaos Earth RAW: Civilian
Dead Reign RPG: Survivor O.C.C./Ordinary People
