magic users and Atlantean Tattoos

Unread post by darthauthor »

With regard to spell casting O.C.C.s getting Atlantean Tattoos and getting 7 or more of them:

In the Atlantis book spell casters lose their ability to cast spells but not their knowledge.
I have some questions for my clarification:

Question #1:

Do Ley Line Walker also lose their ability to ley line drift and such?

Question #2:

Do Warlocks lose their special abilities related to their element?
For example, Fire Warlocks being able to locate nearby fires or being immune to ordinary fire.

Question #3:

Do Shifter's lose their familair or powers from their "Relationships" with a supernatural power?

Question #4:

Do the Elemenatl Fusionists lose their immunity?

Question #5:

Do Mystics lose their ability to sense the supernatural and open themselves to it?

Question #6:

If someone has a magic curse on them will getting the 7th Tattoo break the "MAGIC" of the curse enchantment on them?

Q1/Q2/Q4/Q5:
Yes, they would lose access to their special abilities as stated in the tex "Seven or more tattoos totally destroys a practioner of magic's other mystic powers, i.e, spellcasting, circle making, summoning, rituals, techno-wizardry powers and all other magic abilities! [..] all other O.C.C. and magic creating abilities are lost forever." and in a subsequent paragraph "However, the character keeps all original O.C.C skills/education, but not special abilities." Both quotes are WB2 pg85.

Seems pretty clear that the various special abilities would not be retained.

Q3:
Familiar I would argue No as likely one of the few exceptions that might exist. The spell/ability isn't disrupted IMHO, though a case might exist for it to block access to the T-magic in the first place due to the nature of the link (could you be considered a "mutant" due to the link?)

Q6:
If you mean the mage casting Curse on someone else and then becoming a T-man, no the Curse would not be broken. If you mean as a means of a cure for a curse, again no.

ShadowLogan,

Thanks.

I sometimes make a fool of myself believing only what I want and acting like it is a certainity and obvisous to everyone.

Knowledge needs to be checked and updated every so often.

I might argue about #5. Re-reading it I FEEL but don't know that the "Sense the Supernatural" and Open themselves power are PSYCHIC and NOT magical based.

Keep in mind to that Master Psychics cannot receive M-Tats, along with human mutants (which, atleast some, psychics can be considered or have been in the past) which can include individuals with supernatural level abilities (WB21 pg197). A Minor or Major Psychic (which a Mystic is) still can, though here the text doesn't give examples, so how one interprets some of the restrictions from WB21 might also put a Mystic (or some other mage classes) on or off the list.

While a case might exist for certain abilities to be retained like StS and such, WB2 still seems to imply "special abilities" are lost. While I agree the abilities are psychic in nature, they still count as a "special ability" IMHO which would indicate they get dropped.

WB21 on pg197 would also seem to suggest that both the Splugorth and True Atlanteens both put some controls in place (for different reasons) on their T-Men from becoming to powerful. I think it might also be questionable for a Mage or Psychic to convert to a T-man either voluntarily or involuntarily.
