Another question...

I've recently read-through the Galaxy Guide for Aliens Unlimited. In order to save myself a bit of a head-ache, could anyone tell how fast the Factors are (FTLs) when converted over to Rifts. In Rifts, of course, the ships can travel at "so-many" light years per hour. In Aliens Unlimited, the ships can travel at "so-many" factors per....????.... :? .

Ah hah....knew I missed something...thanks... :D

Hey, I'm just quoting them. Don't blame me that scientific knowledge at Palladium seems to come from a reading of Barney's My First Singing Astronomy Guide as told by a dyslexic on crack.

I believe the laughter is directed at the quote, "three times the speed of life."

No prob MK...we all have an off decade or two... :D

Seriously, I normally have a hard time NOT snagging that kinda thing... It just so happened that the four before didn't quite exceed my "I gotta" limit. :D

Duh... I thought the Galaxy Guide (as a supplement to Aliens Unlimited) was supposed to be compatible with Phase world (heck, there's even that section in the PhWC about whether to treat the Atorian empire as a Kreeghor wassal or as an independant power and all that :( ) and now... that I do the checking (right, I never used the galaxy guide, just got it and never took the time to read it properly) I notice that charming technology gap : no GG starship has more than factor 250, so they take at least 35 hours to cross a light year... now a very slow PhW starship won't do less than 2 light years per hour, which is more than factor 17 000... I do believe in adapting the material and making *some* allowances... but that kind of discrepancy i'ts just plain irreconcilable : no way to groups of civilizations with such a variation in tech levels can coexist ... those with the faster technology will give or sell their secret, or just plain provide (freely or not) the use of their own craft to the less favored side, if only for the sake of their own convenience in no waiting SOOO long for passengers and cargo to arrive where needed. so... well, looks tha much of the money I put in that galaxy guide was wasted... the thing is good *only* if you play a quasi pure HU campaign... For a PhW campaign, all of the stuff on ships, interstellar travel and technology is outdated... all of a sudden I like Mike Breaux much less than I sued to... hey, nice typo... perhaps I *should* sue for sale of deceptive merchandise? :x and tell me if I'm wrong or is this indeed his las major assignment for PB? might there be a cause and effect relationship?

S...

Well, the tech level is lower than the Three Galaxies.

You could always modify the factors to a scale similar to that of ST:TOS were each warp "factor" was C raised to that power. So, the original Enterprise's max speed of warp 8 was C^8.

Or, if you want REALLY nasty speeds (that will rapidly outpace TG tech), you could always use a logarythmic scale.
