I hope ther will be a BtS book on the 10 cities that have a Powerful link to the Supernatural.

What do you think?

Calgary has to be one we all know that

Louisiana, world famous for its many ghosts and supernatural phenomenom.

That would be Miami (Florida), LA, New Orlians, San Fransisco, Jonesborough (TN), Akron (Ohio), Atlanta (GA), Salem (MS), a place in Main, and Texas that I can't remember the names of.

Louisiana isn't a town... you must mean La Nouvell Orléans... Baton Rouge is too much of a backwater to count.

LA is short for Los Angeles.

I just hope they wouldnt be all-american (Palladium books has this tendency to focus on the US...).

Well, to be honest, it's easier to write about stuff on your own native soil than abroad. On the other hand, there's nothing stopping overseas Palladium fans from contributing this kind of material to the Rifter.

In the U.S., I'd like to see the following major cities:

Chicago IL, New York City NY, Washington DC, Savannah GA, Atlanta GA, New Orleans LA, Los Angeles CA, Salem MA, Providence RI, St Augustine FL

International Cities: London, England; Paris, France; Madrid, Spain; St Petersburg, Russia; Edinburgh, Scotland; Jerusalem, Israel; Cairo, Egypt; Sydney, Australia; Tokyo, Japan; Hong Kong, China

Lybia? Do you mean Liberia? In that case the capital is Monrovia. I'd personally have Kumasi, Ghana on this list, Timbuktu, Mali, and Dakar, Senegal. I'm sure there are other cool African cities to include. Another fascinating city is Abidjian, Ivory Coast although the closest I ever got there was Berekum, Ghana.

I should think he means Libya's capital, Tripoli.

St. Louis With a tag in from Louisville (We do have the old TB hospital Waverly which is one of the 10 most haunted places in US).
London/England in general (those castles are just screaming full of ghosts)

San Antonio (It's got the alamo...there's an adventure right there)
and good ol' New York.

Well, I think St. Louis is important, between Limp Mansion, the Arch, and hundreds of other Haunted sites it would almost need to be a requirement. Of course if you want to add the cities in the surrounding area, Alton Il is an absolute hotspot. And St. Charles, home of the first Capital of Missouri as well as hundreds of supernatural hot spots. Any major city that had a catastrophe would also be good, Chicago, San Francisco and New York are three big ones (what kind of supernatural occurences will now result near ground zero of the 9/11 incidents?). And Gettysburg and New Orleans.

Hm. Maybe I should add something about Jonesborough to Shadows of the South. I'd forgotten about it.

Here are five creepy places I've personally been to. In fact, I've run several BTS games set in these locations. Many are out-of-the-way cities and would most likely NOT come to mind when thinking about 10 cities in America to compile into a source book. The events listed are based on historical, news media and SOD sources. Here goes...

1. Hopewell, Virginia: a growing city of 50,000 surrounded by rich, ghastly civil war history. Lincoln's (and the North's) HQ for much of the Civil War; surrounded by Petersburg, Prince George County, Chesterfield and close to haunted Richmond. Easily peppered with civil war flavor and southern charm. Bordered by the junction of James and Appomattox Rivers; mysterious boating incidents authorities attribute to alcohol, yet witnesses claim river "monster" up-ended boats, tipping passengers into water, devouring them. Officials deny such "outlandish claims" attributing them to mass hysteria. Civil War ghosts seen marching through wooded areas behind recently constructed housing subdivisions.

2. Blytheville, Arkansas: a small cotton town once the home to Blytheville Air Force Base (name changed to Eaker Air Force Base in 1989/90; a location mentioned in the RIFTS core rule book as being a ley line nexus; near the Mississippi River and the haunted Big Lake Preserve; the "Faulk" Monster of Arkansas swamps nearby. UFOs sighted over the base at night, concentrating on B-52 bombers on nuclear alert during cold war; unusually high number of suicides for air force members before base finally closed in 1992 for "operational concerns and exceeding standard cost of operations." Federal Express was to take existing base infrastructure and begin hub operations, but the advance team of Fed Ex employees vanished under mysterious circumstances; contract lost and the base now serves as satellite campus for MCCC (Mississippi County Community College); students suffer from unusually high rate of missing persons and suicides.

3. Minot, North Dakota: the frigid, threatening chill of -80 degree winters and large expanses of desolate wastes (think Hoth, only creepy, frozen fields of wheat); in the late summer and fall, golden seas of wheat; obscure cults and satan worshippers seek privacy in places like this; Minot Air Force Base was put on the highest nuke alert back in the 50s - 70s because of UFO sightings over WSA (weapon storage areas); 15 armed missile sites surround the base in a U shaped pattern; Russians visit per START (nuke-control) to ensure treaty compliance; Air Force security police put on alert continuously because of "big-foot" type sightings in restricted areas; haunted guard towers no longer in operation giving phone calls to frightened security policemen.

4. Fargo, North Dakota: again, frigid chill of winter... but Fargo is "strange." Chronic missing-persons scandal led to the closure of the West Fargo meat packing plant to the relief of citizens who complained about the terrible smells... and unattributed screaming heard on lonely roads at night during harvest near the plant. Air control tower at Hector International Airport employees enjoy high rate of alcoholism and complain about "ghost flights" arriving during the witching hour. Air National Guard base, home to the "Happy Hooligans" Air Combat Command attack wing refuse to fly over the area during unstated times of the year due to "unexplained aerial phenomena." Sister city of Moorhead, Minnesota is home to the "gyrating contortionist" and his band of freaks. Fargo is frequently the site of extremely odd and unlikely succession of converging circumstances resulting in spectacularly gruesome results. Mystic shamans claim to have caused the floods of the late 90s in Fargo and Grand Forks (2 hours north).

5. Honolulu, Hawaii: Citizens of the west coast of Hawaii awoke to a Japanese air attack... in December of 1997. Honolulu police and nearby military installations were overloaded with reports of the attack of 1941 repeating itself with vivid clarity. In fact, 12 people died of medical conditions brought about by fear of the attack. 25 more people died in fatal accidents indirectly contributed to the distracting attack. Over 100 people still seek counseling. Officials and state authorities claim that a Chinese fireworks company prematurely set off their New Year's gunpowder display. Police claim that all 16 employees of the Ying-Chang-Shin company were killed by misfired rockets; when questioned about 38 caliber bullet wounds, authorities claimed that during a fit of hysteria, they murdered each other in a drug induced shoot out, which ignited the rockets. Locals are skeptical. The volcano Goddess Pele has appeared more frequently to tourists and islanders alike, killing some and passionately enthralling others, Hawaiians claim. Elemental beasts sprouting from sea floor lava tubes have caused the Navy to go on alert recently. In an well publicized incident in fall of 2000, a skinny, gaunt Hawaiian man "burst into flames right in the friggin' theater and kill 2 ova my braddas." On the set of WINDTALKERS (starring Nicolas Cage), 16 WWII marine extras claim to have been "stalked" by a strange, reptilian beast with multiple arms and a long, craven tongue. When later asked for further explanation, they stated that they had signed confidentiality agreements with the studio, but were compensated over $55,000 each; it should be noted that extras on the set generally earned about $700 each. They would not comment on their missing companion and his mysterious baking accident while taking a wrong turn into the kitchen of an ambiguous slop grill in Waikiki.

At least it's not Elvis's "barbecue accident" from Bubba Ho-tep.

----Something about convection ovens, too much yeast, an angry Somoan and a poorly placed industrial egg whip. It's one of those things that you would never imagine happening. However, some believe that it was the work of a clandestine organization bent on keeping certain facets of society unaware about the true nature of reality. Then again, it might have been nothing more than an odd sequence of events leading to a fatal conclusion.

That might work... I don't know if people would "warm" to the idea of a possessed oven, though. But you know, if they don't like the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

Honolulu had a string of odd kitchen occurences between 1997 and 2000. Very odd. A lot of tainted sushi, spam, sticky rice and macaroni salad, braddah.

Yeah, Memphis, TN makes it onto my list as number 6, since I already listed only my first five, to avoid a single response being so huge that you'd lose interest. Being stationed in Arkansas, I drove the 1.5 hours to Memphis quite often, and fell in LOVE with the city. It's predominantly featured in the Tom Cruise movie THE FIRM, as well as others I'm sure.

Memphis in May features the International BBQ Festival; Beale Street and jazz/blues; Graceland (Elvis's 70's styled home & museum). Heck, you could involve his resurrection or something or a vampire imitating him in a story. Sun Studios is there, too, I think.

Have you seen Bubba ho Tep? Its about Elvis and JFK not dead but with mistaken identity both in the same nursing home (natch) and they must fight a Mummy that sucks your soul out through your butt. Great flick.

I once extensively explored the idea of haunted toilets, even as far as creating a "PORCELAIN ARMY." However, all of those dreams went down the drain. There's still potential there, but you'll have to *plumb* the depths.

Here's another city; Number SEVEN on my list I believe...

GAINESVILLE, Florida: home to the University of Florida's Gators. And, home to many, many alligators. So many, in fact, that one of the lakes bordering the campus is named Lake Alice, as in "Alli"gator. And, home to a terrible past; back in the 80s, I believe, that horrible serial killer who murdered those college girls, even placing one of their heads on a revolving record player next to a window so that passersby could see it if they looked close enough.

That's very dark, but the city has a lot of potential for BTS flavored mystery and horrific fun... There are a lot of palm trees and Spanish Moss dangling from standard coniferous and deciduous trees. Nearby locales such as Payne's Prairie and submerged caverns might play central roles in spooky searches and dark discoveries by moonlight.

There's a lot of life in the town, boasting a student population well over 40,000 strong. And where there's that much energy... dark things are sure to stalk.
