http://www.palladiumbooks.com/press/press2005-09c.html wrote:Unexpected Delays from the Printer

The good news is The Rifter® #32 and our new Winter Catalog went to the printer last week and will be available around October 19, (with a little luck, maybe sooner).

The bad news is Palladium’s Fall schedule appears to have been completely knocked off kilter, with books coming out 2-4 weeks later than our original release dates.

We apologize, but there is nothing we can do about these delays. Our printer is so buried in work that they called us last week to tell us that until further notice, they’ve been forced to go on an “extended schedule.” That means 6-8 weeks to print a book instead of the usual 4 weeks. They’re getting The Rifter® and the Winter Catalog done more quickly as a special favor (thanks, guys and gals).

Regrettably, this unexpected turn of events will delay ALL of Palladium’s Fall and Christmas releases. Rifts® Mercenary Adventures and Rifts® World Book 27: Adventures in Dinosaur Swamp will both be pushed into November. That also means BTS-2 sourcebook: Tome Grotesque will probably be delayed until December (although we’re hoping for a late November release) and BTS-2 sourcebook: Beyond Arcanum will be delayed until January or even February, 2006.

I'm thinking January/March release dates based on this.

Didn't you see his note on page 139? He promised we wouldn't have to wait a year. BTS-2 came out in March(?) 2005, so the suppliments should be out sometime after March 2007.

But I'm not bitter. Like an abused wife, I'm used to it; I came back expecting it.

Until then, we've only got a small piece of the game environment...it's disappointing. But as a long time BTS player, I have to say that I'm used to it. I guess I'll just keep GMing off the cuff.

So far, I see no reason to really change to second edition, I'll stick with first edition BTS.

I go the opposite route: I use BtS 2 as the source, and BtS 1 as a supplement.
Mostly, I want the equipment of the parapsychologist from 1st ed, and some other things, but for creatures, I found useful ones in Nightbane and Dark Conversions.

Be fair: it's been a rough year at Palladium for KevSim.
That whole theft thing would leave me running behind too, not to mention all the other stuff he went through.

My late 1980's copy of Recon says Recon Modern Combat out in the next 6 months.

I'm still waiting expecantly.

Maybe it's the real content of the Rifts Coloring Book?

In the new "Murmurs" board, Kevin states that he is currently working on Tome Grotesque...and seeing that much of (if not all of) the art is already done, Tome Grotesque will most likely be out on time.

Care to wager a fifth of the winner's choice on that? I warn you I have very expensive tastes. :)

I wouldn't bet on the Feb 27 date, as yesterdays press release (Feb 8 ) put the release of Tome Grotesque on March 28...

We shall see...

2008 - here we come!

Hrm, that reminds me of how Mechanoids is already slated for 2007 on the 2006 release schedule. I understand they're all very busy, but that still made me chuckle a little.

I dunno... I think 2008 is a little optimistic.

Reading Kev's posts in his peudo-blog made me think just one thing...

Let's hope so.

But there's still Arzno and Madhaven to work on. :)

Plus PU3 and the 5 book Crossover project...

So, they were able to get The Rifts Coloring Book, Best of Rifter and Rifts Arzno all out, but nothing that was promised for BTS.

I am not sure which is worse, being constantly lied to or having The Rifts Coloring Book getting higher priority for the Printers.

Man, this sucks.

I will check back in another six months and see what the date is.

How long ago did you send it?

In light of the other issues at Palladium, I'm not all that concerned with the delays on the BtS books (yet). Once thet're out of the woods financially, BtS, Splicers and PFRPG will need to be a priority for fans though.

Agreed.

Well, except on Splicers: I like the game, but not every line needs supplements, though I would buy a Splicers supplement anyways/regardless.

If I didnt know for fact that at least one Splicers suppliment is near written, I'd agree with you. Another book detailing Houses and their Librarians would be nice, as would some critters to populate the Game Preserves with but all in all, yes it can mostly stand on just 1 book.

Heh, given the timeframe for all the **** we're hearing about in the past few months to have actually gone down, be happy the BtS2 book made it to print at all. For them to be in court now, I guarantee the stuff was stolen over a year ago, probably more like 18 months and quite possibly over 2 years ago. We have word it's in progress and we have updates on what's being done to ensure it actually does see print in the forseeable future - for now we just have to be patient and let matters play out.

Then 18-24 months for the companion books will be amazingly fast now wont it :P

You mean "realistic and plausible". With the way Palladium has been doing things the past several years, it's more than realistic, in fact. I've made a bet with a friend that goes like this: if Palladium is both in business for another year and releases these two books in that time, I will drink an entire bottle of soy sauce.

I don't expect to be drinking that soy sauce.

Sadly, I don't even expect Palladium to even still be in business a year from now. Or maybe not so sadly, for various reasons that I won't get into here, since they would upset everyone and get me banned.

Good call there. But if they are and the books are out we'll expect live recording of the soy sauce for our enjoyment. :D

I'll do that. In fact, if these books come out in the next year, I will not only drink that bottle of soy sauce, I will eat a pair of Big Kev's worn underwear.

Okay, maybe not the last part.
