OCC's added to the Chaos

Unread post by Tricky »

I've been reading (rereading actually) Chaos Earth, and a few of the Rifter suppliments. Since I only have CE and CoC, I started thinking of other OCC's that might make a good addition:

Demon hunter from Rifter #19 or 20- loose the 'council' make the abilities kinda a magical response to the situation ala Buffy.

Murder Mage from Rifter #8- nothing like a Magical Serial killer to add to the daily terror!

Many of the System Faliure OCC's- especially Exterminaor, Peacekeeper, Splatterpunk (need some violent gangers?), Sawbones, Freebooter, Grease Monkey and especially the Wacko!

I tossed around the Megaversal Mage from Rifter #3-4ish- But maybe more of a NPC; a 'native guide' to most of the phenomena, or as a villian trying to control the nexus for his own ends.

That's all I got right this minute; feel free to add any you think of.

Chaos Earth already has its own Demon & Witch Hunter OCC, but it's a purely mundane character who merely happens to have a lot of knowldge about fighting the supernatural.

Murder Mage could be interesting, but it would need some modification. Magical OCCs in Chaos Earth are very limited compared to their Rifts counterparts.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Systems Failure classes.

A Spatial Mage (the Rifter #3 mage you were thinking of) is very overpowered by Chaos Earth standards and would also need modification for use as a PC, but as an NPC from another dimension the character could make a very nasty villain. A Temporal Raider/Wizard/Warrior could do well in this role as well.

Notably, the role of "Native Guide" is already handled pretty well by the D-Shifter from Rise of Magic. They don't cast any spells, but their dimensional powers and knowledge more than compensate.

It seems to me that the change in the balance of energies on Chaos Earth would result in some Genius/Naturals (Nightbane and Beyond the Supernatural), Psi-Mechanics (ditto), and other psychics coming into being, as well as some proto-Psi Stalkers.
There you go man, keep as cool as you can.

them to believe that you perceive the web they weave
and keep on thinking free.

The mention of the System Failure OCCs is a good one; IMHO, every one of them (save for the NORAD ones, which get replaced by Chaos Earth's NEMA OCCs) would have a place on Chaos Earth; just change references to "bugs" into references to "monsters".

Likewise, I believe that Nightbane established that a massive influx of supernatural power into a reality will result in a gradual increase in the number of psychics there, either by bestowing psychic powers on formerly non-psychics or by awakening latent abilities already present; so I could see the possibility of allowing PCCs from BTS into a Chaos Earth game. But I'd be tempted to include a recommendation that they be kept rare and/or dangerous - usually no more than one in any PC group, if even that, and maybe an adjustment saying that CE-era psychics have mental instability problems similar to what Rifts Crazies or SF Wackos face (due to the strain of the suddenly-amplified psychic powers that they now are being forced to wield).

Speaking of psychics, and without Psychic Storm to guide us, I think a Nega-pyschic or Psi-nullifier from Psycape would be an asset; without looking at my book, theywould bring a lot to the table, and they aren't too powerful.

And how cool would it be to have some guy concentrate real hard and dispel some witches power before he could use it.

Oh, I forgot about the Cursebringer, he would be coolish. And the Blood Priest, the witch of a Vampire Intelligence. You could do a story like "The Thing", where you have evidence of someone draining blood, but no one is a vampire....perhaps something else stalks amoung the recently rescued survivors?

And this could possibly be off topic, but since the Rifts are dumping stuff from all over the Mega-verse, isn't it possible that some 'non-demonic' entities could be dumped, like someone from BTS, Robotech, or even Recon?

An early idea for CE was a Superhero gets pulled out of his reality fightin some mystic villian, and winds up in CE, where he struggles to deal with both his dislocation and the mistrust of people he wants to help.
