First, let us give Credit where Credit is due: Inspired by this Thread.

The Lord of Genii, Kyvenn S'ymm-Bedda, has decided to reward you for breaking the Seal of Solomon that kept him imprisoned in the Magic Jar.

He will now grant you three very special Wishes.

The Djinn will allow you to bring to the Real World, from the Universe of Rifts:

ONE Technological Device,

ONE Magical Spell of any level (we'll pretend that it's an Amulet that grants the Spell 3 times per 24 hour period),

and

ONE Psynetic Device that grants the recipient ANY single Psi-Power, from Sensitive to Super (I haven't quite nailed down exactly how this would work; i.e., if it would be a constant or temporary Psionic Effect).


The Djinn then proceeds to inform you of the limitations of these Wishes:

A]] You cannot make a generic request; for example, you could wish for an MDC Trenchcoat or the "Resurrection" Spell or the Psi-Sword; you could NOT, say, wish for the School of Necromancy Magic, the Psynetic Factories of Mindwerks, or the Process by which MDC Materials and/or MDC Damage Weapons are created.

B]] NONE of your choices can allow Transport, Teleportation, etc., off the Planet. No Stardrives, Stargates, F.T.L., Dimensional Rifts, etc.

What happens here, stays here™.

C]] NONE of the Choices can be reverse-engineered; Earth won't be able to create Magic, Golden-Age Technology, or Psionics from the choices that you make.

What you decide is ALL that Earth gets.

D]] The choices that you make will be made available to the citizenry of the entire world (and Of course, whether or not the Governments of various Countries will try to confiscate these items from the Poeple is a diferent matter altogether and not part of this Exercise).

If you choose "Resurrection," then you get the Spell, and good ol' Mrs. Magillicuddy down the street gets it.........but Osama ibn Laden gets it, too.

E]] Spells, Psionics, or Technological Items that normally have a Permanent Cost associated with them do not in this instance. If you wish for, say, a Mega Juicer Conversion or the Psynetic Eternal Brain, the recipients of same will NOT have a shortened LifeSpan or eventually go insane.

The real Question is this: Knowing what you do of the Real World's current Gepopolitical Situation and its Socioeconomic Poroblems, and more importantly, KNOWING THAT HUMAN BEINGS ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO USE WHAT IS GIVEN THEM FOR BOTH GOOD AND EVIL, what Choices would you make and why???

And for the record, I have a Spell in mind, and a Tech Device in mind, but I'm stuck as to what Psionic Power I'll introduce.

Which is why I haven't yet posted my own Choices here.

That, and because I want to see what Choices Killer and Jesterzzn make, and see if we agree.

As a rule, I don't deal with djinni.
But I'll think about this a bit and get back to you.

I'd Ask for a Fully functional Glitterboy, or a Glitterboy MkV.

I'd also Ask for an aMulet that casted Crimson Wall of lictatlon, and an implant that granted me the power of Supercharge, So I could tear people apart at my barehands!

Supercharge will allow all sorts of conquest, The Crimson wall will remove my enemies, and the glitterboy will provide Much fun!

Because communication is humanity's greatest achievement, and this device would facilitate communication.

2. Spell (Amulet)
Detect Evil

Because evil (diabolic and psychotic) people could be weeded out of society.

3. Psionic power (psynetic device)
Brain Scan (Mind Bleeder power).
To make psychiatric diagnosis easy and accurate.

Tech Device: the original A.R.C.H.I.E. 3 before he went insane, or if that's not allowed by Cornholio's rules then the Melbourne AI, cos then we could do away with one hell of a lot of bureaucratic nonsense that just ain't needed.

Magic Talisman: Create Food, to get all those junkies out there to quit askin' me for a dollar "to get something to eat"

Psi Device: Telemechanics, to accelerate the understanding and development of technology

My only view on this is that most of the killing and oppression in our world hasn't been done by "evil" people; it's been done by people trying to force what they see as "good" on others, whether for religious or secular reasons.

I'd guess that you'd actually need a Spell or Psi Power called "Detect Human Fanaticism....."

1 Technological Device: Everyone gets a small computer that teaches them all th skilsl they need to know to survive and thrive plus provides an understaning of the concepts of the value of life, of liberty, of justice and of equality.

2 Magic: Everyone get's a spell that provides healing to good aligned creatures but damages evil aligned creatures

3 Psynetic Implant: permenant psychic power, Cure insanity, self only.

Jin, or Jinni... cannot make items appear out of thin air. So this is kinda eh... imho

For the Tech device i would go for a Fusion powered Grav Pack.
Solve all transportation issues and cut way back on polution from automobiles and consumer air travel.

For the Magic amulet I would go for Sustain.
Solve all the hungar problems and allow for more productive days as we would all need only 2 hours of sleep.

For the Psi ability I would go for Super Telekenisis.
Common who doesn't dream of being able to move stuff with their mind!

So we now have a society of flying, telekenitic, workaholics that never need to eat!

That's what the Brain Scan is for.

I see part of being a good person as the duty to make sure that you are doing the right thing... not just blindly following your opinions to the grave (yours or other people's).
Anyway, part of the appeal of "Detect Evil" is curiosity of who would detects as Evil and who wouldn't.
In any case, the fewer evil people the better.

You can make your Choices from ANY of the Rifts Books as long as they fall within the Rules.

No Artifacts(The Giant Killer Satellite, I mean), Tarnow Crystals, or Cosmic Forges for everyone, though.......

Joey, if you haven't read Splicers yet, go do so.

The Origin of the Machine is REALLY interesting.....and "she" is well along the lines of ARCHIE, perhaps even more advanced.

By the by, I personally believe that if we ever develop one SuperComputing AI to run the whole Planet like in Splicers, the Carmen Bellaire's Nightmare Scenario could REALLY come true, especially if we act like the Humans in his Book did -which is TOTALLY likely.....

They canot impart power, grant access to a magic category you have no comprehension of (IE a warlock casting necromancy) They cannot *poof* magic items or tech items out of nowhere. And after your 3rd wish... you better be ready for a supernatural assault... they will likly turn on you.

He's not talking about djin in PFRPG.
They cannot affect the real world.
In the context of this thread, he's talking about Djinni in the real world.
If you want to debate the extent of "real" djinni, that should be it's own thread.

Well the labor laws cannot change overnight and i doubt that people really would become workaholics.
I ask you if you only had to sleep 2 hours a day and never had to eat would you:
A) Work the same number of hours but skip lunch so that you got off early every day and then had an extra 6-7 hours for yourself.
OR
B) Work more hours to get more money (assuming your boss is willing to pay you for your extra time...overtime is costly ya know).

Most people would probably chose "A" (I know I would) and the ones that chose "B" would jack up overhead (time and a half adds up quick) and balance the extra productivity they provide.

I have to disagree that the NYSE or any other SE would suffer from massive growth...at least not overnight...

One must consider that Oil prices would drop.
Automobile makers would suffer huge drops in sales, motorcycles too.
Air travel would be severly impacted as short hauls would be easier and faster via Grav Pack (simply bungy cord your suitcase on and zip off to wherever)...transcontinental and transoceanic travel would still require ariplanes but this is a much smaller need.
And sadly the vast majority of farmers would be pretty much out of a job (and in places like my state of South Dakota where agriculture is the primary business the local economy will suffer greatly)

Despite these losses, the economy as a whole, (in the long run) would benifit from the new situation. However In the immediat future the rapid loss of so many jobs would cause a major depression, not a boom, and said depression could last up to a generation (though probably would be much shorter)...after that the economy would climb and climb as never before.

Tech Device: My own personal ForceField with Nuclear Generator.

Magic Spell: DoppleGanger Superior, or Warrior Horde... laying waste to some villages and towns would be awesome. But mostly becasue you said the limitations are not there... IE... When I doppleganger myself I could doppleganger myself again. Or Sustain.... never eat again.... and sustain would work well with my other two.

Psinetic Device: Mentally Possess Others... god I would have fun with
this... there would be a whole new criminal category for me.

Turn the forcefield on, cast sustain on myself... and start possessing people. THe military couldnt do crap to me... thier weak weapons would never bypass my forcefield, and id never have to drop it to eat or anything because of sustain. So I would be free to wreak havoc on anyone I felt like.

Tech Device: My own personal ForceField with Nuclear Generator.

Magic Spell: DoppleGanger Superior, or Warrior Horde... laying waste to some villages and towns would be awesome. But mostly becasue you said the limitations are not there... IE... When I doppleganger myself I could doppleganger myself again. Or Sustain.... never eat again.... and sustain would work well with my other two.

Psinetic Device: Mentally Possess Others... god I would have fun with
this... there would be a whole new criminal category for me.

Turn the forcefield on, cast sustain on myself... and start possessing people. THe military couldnt do crap to me... thier weak weapons would never bypass my forcefield, and id never have to drop it to eat or anything because of sustain. So I would be free to wreak havoc on anyone I felt like.

It is only the PUNITIVE EFFECTS of the Spell that no longer apply; the Spell otherwise works normally.

If, for example, "Superhuman Strength" says that it CANNOT be cast multiple times upon itself to stack PS, then that's the way the Spell goes.

And as for MY Three Wishes:

A]] Magic -"Metropolis" -although I don't know if you'd actually get MDC Buildings in this Low/No Magic World of ours.

Either way, whether you get MDC or high SDC Buildings, they regenerate themselves!!!!

I believe that Killer, who recently spent a fine day on his Roof a'fixin' it because he had nothing else better to do (yeah right!!!) would greatly appreciate this Spell....as would all of us who ever had to call out a Plumber or Electrician for a serious problem.

B]] Tech -The Rifts Twenty-year Nuclear Engine........but I did wonder as I picked this one....would the Genii magically keep the Nuke Engines running forever??? Or would we just have twenty years of "free" Energy??

C]] And for Psionics -"Mind Wipe." (the best that I could come up with, apart from "Mind Bond.")

The Origin of the Machine is REALLY interesting.....and "she" is well along the lines of ARCHIE, perhaps even more advanced.

By the by, I personally believe that if we ever develop one SuperComputing AI to run the whole Planet like in Splicers, the Carmen Bellaire's Nightmare Scenario could REALLY come true, especially if we act like the Humans in his Book did -which is TOTALLY likely.....

I think that the Game Setting is really, really nice. And this is just the first Book (when are more Books coming out, Carmen??)....!!

Enough varieties of Power Armor to satisfy the Munchkin hiding in us all, yet desperate enough of a situation to please even Killer Cyborg and Doom, the undisputed minimalists of the Boards.

Really gritty setting......kinda like the Terminator 2029 Universe, only on Steroids. You won't be beating Splicers' version of Skynet anytime soon......

I recieved it in my christmas grab bag this year. Must say that it is really a pretty neat game. A friend of mine said it was Terminator meets The Guyver, and I think thats pretty accurate, although Splicers has several elements that put it in a catagory of its own. Librarians are just wicked cool, as are necro bots. I have just thrown together a intro adventure, and plan to run it this weekend, maybe next, but I have not been this excited about a game setting since I first played Robotech, like 20 years ago.

(J/K-- but I told you that Humans would find a way to turn your Wishes against you.....and who wants to bet Money that the Militaries of the Real World, particularly the largest ones with the largest Nuclear Arsenals, won't at least consider such a Military Strategy???)

Um.. We Can Generate Fires WAY in excess of 300 Deg farenheight in a normal foundry ( infact, it's normally in excess of 3000 deg Farenheit)... melting it would be no problem.... and since We'd all have supercharge we'd all be able to chisel away at it with our chisels!
(*supercharge, Generally turns you into +6 PS supernatural, and extra bonuses to SDC... and I think in a rifts environment lets you turn all that MDC around...) and look at all those nuclear reactors!..... People would be turning their glitterboys in Poverty stricken areas into Man sized Batteries...
