HL&S A Little Piece of my Heart

This works best for a group with a rep as "ghosthunters", but a parapsychologist in private practice could wind up with this unique client...

Hook: Theodore Kenneth Blackman has been depressed for the past ten years. He's had multiple therapists, multiple anti-depressants, and multiple failed relationships because of this, but none of this has helped. He can trace it back to the day he moved out of his first apartment, which was also the day his first girlfriend left him.

Line: Talking with (and investigating) Mr. Blackman will reveal some problems with his story. First of all, he completely neglects to mention his heavy involvement in the occult during his college days (about a decade ago); if questioned, he claims to have no knowledge of that. His girlfriend didn't just leave him... she left everyone. She hasn't been heard from at all. Todd's aura doesn't show him to be anything other than a normal human, but the depression is very weird on him... it looks like there is scarring on the edge of his aura.

Sinker: Todd is depressed because he and his girlfriend, late one night ten years ago, summoned a creature that they couldn't quite control. It demanded a fee, and for its fee, it took his girlfriend, and a piece of Todd's soul. The only way to free him from the depression is to reclaim Todd's soul, which means returning him to the apartment, and somehow convincing the demon (who has been unable to leave the site of Todd's girlfriend's death) to release Todd's soul. And what about his girlfriend, slain these ten years?

To me, HL&S are story seeds... ideas I had that were somewhat random, but could work out. This particular one came from a joke name I came up with during class today (see if you can get how his name is a joke), combined with the thought of someone's soul being lost, and that being what caused their depression.

Just be glad I didn't write up the one based on my wife's comment "She has the psychic ability of damp concrete."

That depends, is the guy's name Ted or Todd? :P

As far as a HLS: i don't really see how "there's a guy, he's depressed" is much of a "hook". I think it's a pretty good idea, just needs more (i know you've already said so yourself, but, to me, it's not even a HLS yet...)

Todd.

And I should've filled that in more. Basically, he comes to them for help, a "last resort", thinking there might be some spooky cause.
