Ya' know, in 13 years of playing Rifts, I don't think any group I've played in or GM'd for has ever had a name!

Valiant's Roughnecks (named for Captain Valiant)
Motley Crew (named as a joke by a Rogue Scholar who had a love for pre Rifts music commenting on the odd group)
Defenders
Dreadwalkers
Epic

The above are the group names used through the years in an ongoing campaign. Super heroes play an important part in the campaign and the names often reflect that. :)

Ed3's old game managed to decide on a name for the group. Staaf van wraak. Or roughly translated, The Staff of Vengance.

Current cast:
Uniqua: Great Horned Dragon Hatchling, played by chater of same name
Artemis: Archmage Extrodinaire, strange half-human half animal creature, also played by chatter of same name
Miguel: gunslinger/spellbreather/dedicated martial artist, Sea Titan, Played by Misfit
Flip: Psi-nullifer/Knight, human, played by chatter of same name
Ivori: Psi-warrior, amazon, played by chatter of same naem.
Kyri: Mutant/Immortal/Gunslinger, human, Played by yours truely :)
Sky: Were-Dragon Bio Borg, played by Sabanak

Newest is Lloyd, Techno Wizard Changeling. Played by Neo

Johnathan: Special Forces/Mutant/Cosmo Knight, human, played by Jhonathan. He's seperated sinse he's no longer regular. The guy in shiny armor just drops by from time to time.

Overall group goals? Well, overreachingly, They've set the norse god Vidar free from his imprisonment in an immensly powerful magic staff (hence the name of the group). Sinse then their primary mandate has been to assassinate the 12 Knights of Ya Blik who imprisoned the God in the staff so they could do things possessing his body. The Knights are quite dangerous, these being the 12 immortal servants who were Ya bliks Generals and servants during the Age of Chaos. The details of taking them out are quite complicated, but mostly revovle around using their flaws aginst them. Secondary goals include niggling things like getting rid of the Xiticix and getting the CS to calm down, and generally improving all life as they go and make the world a better place. Needless to say they've bitten off more than they can comftably chew, but hey, it makes for a fun game :D

Our second playing group is Hex Factor a mercenary squad mainly working in Europe and Atlantis. This team is more out for themselves than our other group. They are part time privateers and smugglers. Hex started off in the servicer of Atlantis as a bounty hunter but on a contract on Ink who he had been friends with for decades. His old friend soundly defeated him and spared him so he join up with him. they met a glitter girl pilot in Tolkeen during the war and formed a mercenary squad as demon exterminators too take out rouges that got out of control. Hex had no problem with the CS til a CS platoon raided a wedding party on the banks of Lake Ontario killing his wife and nearly 30 of the wedding party. Now Hex has a reason to pay them back. Blitzkrieg was fighting in the arena of Atlantis where Hex and Shang also compete often. They defeated him but just barely so Hex asked him to join. Hex Factor do missions for Odin from time to time. Sir Killgrave the leader of the mystic knights are the Squads main villain. He's very powerful and well respected by them. Lord Dunscon has used the squad many times in the past but holds a grudge againsted them for sparing CS troops and for Hex not letting him buy his ring of elder from him. Dunscon plots to have Hex murder and claim his ring.
- Hex a Achilles Neo-Human shifter
- Blitzkrieg a splicer outrider on a dracos
- Ambrosia a glitter girl pilot in a glitter boy 7
- Ink a True Atantean Monster Hunter
- Marhera a Raksasha demon ( Hex's spy)
- Tu Shang a Shen Wu demon ( Squad's mentor)

Only once has any of the groups I GMed or played in named themselves and that was during the River Pirate campaign when they decided on the name Mississippi Blood Vipers.

Yea, well, when the party is powerful enough to take over a small kingdom, a run of the mill game just wouldn't be fun.

Tell us more about playing groups characters. I know everyone has a story to tell. I think some playing groups should be added into some source books or in the rifter, what do you think?

It's not a bad idea runebeo but see...we've really made our mark on rifts earth as well as other worlds. if you include everything our groups has done you'd have to rewrite alot of the world books...

For Example: My character artemis. He's the prophecized world slayer. After the group actually triggered all the signs to a prophecy without noticing it, my character became the 'targetting point' of a comet heading towards earth. After much quick decision making, and the help of john and his little sister calli, he eventually targeted the lord of the deep. This didn't kill the Lord of the deep but it did hurt him pretty badly and buried him alot of rock so he's not going to be a problem for quite some time. The insuing tidal wave swept over japan, washing it clean of all the oni, but also all of the old kingdom except for those under the millenium tree. The people in the tech cities were largely unharmed due to the mdc strength of their buildings and the pre-exsisting anti-tsunami devices already in place in japan. The wave also hit australia and china but we don't know the extent of the damage there.

Despite the fact that it killed over 5 million people Japan is actually in a better place now. All the oni are gone, the dragons and other bad things have left for easier pickings and the only real problems are the Kappa that think that the tidal wave was a sign that Japan belongs to them, but they're a minor annoance at best. Food was an issue for a while but the two human nations have banded together and help each other with what they have. It's a year later and they're probably the safest human nation on the planet.

One of our npcs, bev(a mutant that felt pleasure in place of pain, regenertated rediculously quickly, think wolverine or hulk, and was able to reproduce with others races by mixing blood) was aparently the last of her species. The group, through some interesting happenstance on center, was led to her old home world(we didn't know she was an alien and always assumed that she was a mutant and so did she). We awakened her goddess and art used his contacts with several gods(part of a back room plot between mine and a few other characters that's quickly becoming a focal point of the game) to help reclaim the planet. During the first day there they came accross a small growing plant that they thought was andiginous. Art, as a celebratory gesture, offered to use the tree of life spell to bind the plant to beverly as a simbol of the new beginning. Well, the plant failed it's save and turned out to be a fledgling millenium tree, which is now something else entirely. It's similar to the original millenium tree but creates it's own types of items, creates seeds equal to the amount of bev's children, and can talk and has a very humanlike personality....

He also stayed there for seven years, helping construct 'the library'. A city sized complex on a floating island with a nexus and one of the new trees at it's center. It has three wings, one is the science and magic research facitily that's filled with labs, schools and other areas of learning. There's the cultural side, filled with texts on all the different cultures that helped build it and the world(norse, greek, egyptian, ordian, earthling and bev's people). The last is the 'entertainment' wing, filled with theatres, amusement parks, colloseums, ect ect ect. Art stayed there so he could raise his two kids(eva and doug) in safety with his wife, jenna underhill. As well as work on the new spell ideas that he had. Two such spells were 'heat' and 'litter', spells that doubled and trippled the fertility of any female they're cast on respectively. Both spells are used quite frequently by bev's people so art is directly responsable for 2/3rds of the planets total population. Art created three new schools of magic, some ludiciris spells and common spells in this time as well as a magical clothing line in his spare time.

(there's a time difference between bev's world and earth which is random. It just so happened to work out well for art as while he was there for 7 years only 3 months passed in game.)

There's alot more to this story(a whoooole lot more) but this post is already too long and should give a pretty good idea as to what goes on.
