Depends - just like everything else surrounding character creation.
Initially, I don't like it, so it would likely be uphill for the character.

Cool, i'm the only "yes" so far.
In the games i've played in they kind of didn't have a choice. They were born Psi-mystics and couldn't do anything about it. They keep it quiet, sure, and try not to stray too far from people who have known them all their lives.

Hooray for angst! :crane:

I'd say no, because Mystic is intuative, the nature of dwarves would prevent it from surfaceing, even if born with it. But with a good story, I'd let a PC do it, with the natural fall out from the choice (like being forsaken from all dwarves at a minimum, or have hordes of dwarven fighters out for his/her blood for breaking the Oath).

Because of the dwarven fear of the mis-use of magic by dwaves, any dwarven mystic would have to fanatical in hiding the fact that he is a mystic. Other wise, when dwarves who are fanatical about dwarves not casting magic hear about him they will send out death squads after him till he is dead dead dead and the take the body and make shure he is dead and not faking it.

They would probably beat him to death as a threat to all life on the planet.

With swords that shoot fireballs.

Irony is, truly, a beautiful thing.

since Dwarves can have psionics it should be ok. His fellow dwarves might look at him a little wierd if he throws a fireball or something but im sure a hypnotic suggestion could take care of that.

Hypnotic Suggestion is a Super Power. Super Powers are not available to Psi-Mystics.

As long as you have fun...who cares?

Bullocks. Rules are a framework around which we can play. Yes, they can be jettisonned if they get in the way of a story, but to simply say they should be ignored because "I am a roleplayer and therefore above such things" opens you up to removing any objective center for your fun.

The trick is to come up with good rules, and to see if they make sense. If they don't work, you deal with that... but "not letting me do everything I want to do" isn't the same as not working.

Several, in several different game systems. Including PF.

In PF, I have run a dwarven diabolist and a dwarven wizard. I have GMed several dwarven diabolists, summoners, wizards, and a couple of warlocks.

I do NOT like the "this class cannot be taken by a race because the entire race doesnt believe in using magic!" argument. There's ALWAYS exceptions.

Of course, that doesn't change the fact that people will kill him when.. erm.. IF, I mean IF... they find out what he is. ESPECIALLY the diabolists/summoners. He'd better be REAL good at hiding it. Even from the other party members, until they've known him a good, LONG time...
