No Humans ?

Unread post by Amberjack »

Has anyone ever done an adventure, or created a world where there were no Humans, or humans were just beginnig to appear, and how the elder races deal with each other, and the new comers ( humans if used at all).
Just curious, as have been kicking idea around for a while. world where elder races still dominate ,, and interact without humans in equation, or how they react when ships full of human settlers arrive on their shores.

Nope, never played a game like that. Might be fun though :)

That's because Palladium's humans are made in the vein of 1st and 2nd edition D&D's humans... no special abilities, no particular reason to play them except for classes who can only be humans. In a point based system, where only humans are "free", not giving them any particular advantages isn't that bad... where most races cost nothing to assume, you're going to see people playing very few of the races who don't give them anything.

My Revised Humans

Unread post by Library Ogre »

To that end, I've revised humans (and all races, to an extent), to make them somewhat more attractive to players, and in keeping with their description in game.

Humans
IQ: 5D4
ME: 5D4
MA: 5D4
PS: 5D4
PP: 5D4
PE: 5D4
PB: 5D4
Spd: 5D4

(I've actually changed everyone over to a base of 5D4, with a number of dice equal to their normal variance from human norms the same. Thus, elven PB, usually two dice higher than humans, is now 7D4.. two dice higher than human norms. Trollish PS isn't 4D6+10, but 6D4+10. I've also removed bonus dice for high attributes, however. This produces a flatter, less eccentric, bell curve that's less a bit higher than 3D6 +1D6 if higher than 15, and reduces the stupidity of those who roll 2D6 for intelligence.)

Humans also gain 2 additional secondary skills at 1st level (or +15% to two skills, or +30% to one skill), and one additional secondary skill (or +15% to one skill) at levels 3, six, nine, twelve, and fifteen.

(Considering I've removed random-roll psionics, making them an option you have to purchase with skills, and also introduced things like Hedge Wizard, Lay Preacher, and Suppressed Warlock, also available and improvable for outlays of skills, this makes humans a lot more flexible than other races)

No. I came up with them while writing Mysteries of Magic, and they went right into the manuscript (and thus into Palladium's possession).

I agree I hate roll up a character with P.P. of 4 and P.S. of 6 then roll 18 for speed. Attributes should be a little more structured. like 3D4 + 6 would work well i think.

I like the sort of Ancient Palladia idea. Lots of magic, flying ships, ground automations, things like that.

Well, one option you can go with (and one reason I like the increased granualarity of the D4s) is 4D4+4... you've got the same range, just pumped up from the base.
