The ever annoying alien artifact that SOMEBODY"s going to open/fiddle with, leading to infection, possession, madness, death...

I had an area of center that was off-limits, but no one knew why.
THe party went and investigated it...
They all died.

It was an area below the gateway portion, flushed with by-energy from the gateways, contsantly in dimensional flux. Kinda like a evil-bastard-fun house-on crack. The characters couldn't trust what they saw with their own eyes.
They started rolling on the random insanity chart...
Ended up with a total party kill (TPK!) as they lost their minds and shot each other. I thought they'd hate me, but they said they had a lot of fun.

Had a game of Call of Cthulu like that...the one guy who should have died, didn't, and was none the wiser for it, save that he exercised mundane caution and managed to avoid going mad, not realizing what was REALLY going on...

Something between a Changling and a Blob and T-1000. Assumes any shape, relative to size, can choose to burn/consume anything it comes into contact with and bullets and stuff just puts holes in it. It usually reads their mind and takes the shape of their worst nightmare.

Soul Grinder; the first of the Daemon Stars.
The ship has a will of it's own and it's comming into Rifts Terra space, has been dream-visioned for about 5 sessions now...and it's just come true.

"There upon the blackness of space; a sight of majestic beauty. A great demi-globe of milky browns and beige with swirling bands of cloud. Circumscribing it, a great ring of frosty white and many tiny spheres, like jewels around agate. Before you though, is something that does not fit.

An ilsland of earth, rock and sod, hanging under the shadow of the moon with an eye-like crater. The island has at it's center a great black castle of obsidian and slate, gothic butresses arches and gargoyles adourn it.
Below all this hangs a great iron ring, twisted metal serpents and runes upon its surface. Within the ring a great vortex of shadows stirs...mauve & viloet light mix with the shadow forming an image. Eight arms spiraling around a great slit pupil. Emerging from this eye, a massive black ship; bridge shaped like a rams-skull, prow a mass of obsidian spikes, keel & hull formed of black iron ribs. The scream of it's emergence into the mortal realm, a birth cry of the damned...and flocking in its wake..shadowy shapes like birds & dragons melded together from shadows..their lesser crys a descant"

Thanks DhAkael, although I can't take all the credit. They just seemed a natural evolution from the Demon Ships of Palladium Fantasy and Rifts Earth.

I think Hades is slated for end of december or January. I hope. then books should follow about every two months. At least that is the plan that I am aware of. That would mean book three would be due around June. I suppose it also depends on how much editing Kevin has to do as well.

I realize that mood could/should be the main task of the GM, but what I mean, is your intention to establish a horror plot-line ?

Well I didn't write it to be horror, but the galaxy falling apart around you could be interpreted as horror I would think. There are a few new races/monsters that are minions, but the demons and deevils are the main threat. Plus with war raging across all Three Galaxies I want it to feel like its the end! So to speak.

Don't worry friends its not the end of the PW line, just a big pot hole in the road. As a GM you could make this a huge event that last years, or something small resolved in a few months and all returns to normal. I ended it with options on how to resolve the conflicts.

So after this long winded reply, yes in respect to the Minion War exploding every where.

Another classic "Horor" plot hook; the dead-world where the spirits of the ancients 'stir'.
Don't need to have things like the Necrontyr(tm) suddenly popping up, but the feeling of dread as the wind whispers through the halls of buildings older than humanity...sounding like dead languages prommising doom or slavation...or pleading for release.

What was that? Did something just move there...in the shadows?

The joke behind Res-Ev:Appocalypse; the reason why all the continuity was so FUBAR was becuase Alice went through the left door instead of the right door.
To explain, in Resident evil (the first 3, 1st. editions) if you have your chracter go through a certain door at the wrong time, you'll encounter enemies or NPC's without any preamble [Carlos: "Hey Jill, long time no see. So keeping that in mind, the movies weren't so destable...but I still think they were wussified. The games were soo much gorier, and that's saying something.

Something I thought up at work. I've been thinking going off and getting Doom 3 when the thought that alittle 'dungeon crawling' on a ship thats overrun with demons would be very cool. So here's a little half*** H,L & S

Hook: CCW needs some extra hands for a salvage operation of a Protector class Battleship, and are willing to pay the group millions to help. Either by added security or extra mechanics.

Line: The Protector and the remains of its battlegroup are adrift in a empty portion of space, there are several CKs patrolling the area and debris from alot of ships, some debris looks more like it came from a creature then a ship. Once on board the PCs immediatly notice that something is wrong, the tempurature is at 50C and climbing, stuff gets moved around, odd smells and people seem to dissappear. Some are found but they're never the same.

Sinker: The battlegroup had been in a battle with a Demon Star, they won(barely) but something went wrong. Towards the end of the battle, the Protector had been boarded and is now slowly being taken over by deamonic forces of all types. Several entities have already made it to the computer core, sections of the ship have been corrupted and are beginning to look like sections of a Demon Star. The CCW is unwilling to destroy the ship, they wish to study the ship, or there is some vital information onboard that they need to retrive

Well its probably more like a level 10 or even 15. It all depends on the GM actually. I, personnally, would be a total bastard. Take one part Freddy, one part the Grudge, the Ring, Poltergeist, Angel, Event Horizon, Sphere, Exorsist, Doom, Resident Evil, and pretty much anything else that creeps you out.

I would have entities that wander the halls and do anything from just tapping people on the shoulder or making like loud footstep noises behind them and move things(basic poltergeists) up to ones that get into your head and manipulate you, "Your friends did (insert evil horrible act) to your (insert loved one)" and it'll be accompanied by the appropriate images and all the while in the back of the head is a whispering voice thats saying "Kill them....kill them all". I think thats eviler then just a simple possesion but those are still fun.

The usual little children voices singing various bed time nursy rthyms and so forth drifting down the halls.

And any being wounded by the demons slowly turns into something(zombie, lesser demon, magic users into liches and stuff) Hospitals and morgues and any where else that the dead and dying are placed turn into little sights of death and carnage as someone becomes one the afore mentioned creatures.

One of the better things about it is you don't need a floor plan for the ship, the entire place has become so warped that nothing makes sense. Corridors get closed off behind the party turning the place into a almost unsovlable maze, places where the basic laws of phyiscs no longer exist round a corner expecting to see another corridor is actually a huge pit(in the ceiling) that seems to have no bottom its walls cluttered with demons and other unholy things climbing to the surface.

Oh and upgrade the demons on the ship to something worse then just Gargoyles and Jinn and Bal-rogs and those cat demons. They are powerful but they're not really truly evil. I want demons that are so warped and evil that if they had a Death Star type weapon they would invade the planets, kill everyone(or take for later sacrifices) burn the planet comletly, destroy all life(plant, animal, 98% of everything) and THEN blow the planet up.

I had more but I can't remember it, mostly cause when I thought this part up at work today my mind drifted to various other Palladium related things like a bit on naming your ships and trying to figure out just how many rounds of BG ammo and GB can carry.

Of course you could inclose them in a complete MDC one way viewable circular room. That way they wouldn't know there was anything outside of their prison while hanging about.
