A few Questions!!!

Unread post by enyggma514 »

I've just started to get into the PFRPG. I'm almost finished reading the 2nd edition corebook. Here are some questions I have so far:

1) When someone parries does his weapon take the damage dealt?

2) If an enemy rolls under the AR and hits the damage goes into the armour right?

3) Ogres rape and mate with human women. How is this anatomically possible?

Thanks for the help. I hope that question 3 didn't offend anyone.

I was always under the impression that Ogres are distantly linked to Humans... therefore, their 'junk' works the same way humans do... Unless they have tentacles I don't know about. If it's a question about size... I'm sure it'd just hurt really bad.

Answer 1- Not typically, but you could easily make a house rule about it. (Actually, now that I think about it, there might be something official in some book, somewhere, about that. It does kind of make sense.)

Answer 2- Yes, the damage goest to armor, unless the strike was a miss all together.

Answer 3- Humans and Ogres are distantly related, so they can procreate between races. Yes, it hurts like H-E double hockey sticks.

Hope that answered those questions. Welcome to the club. 8)

Welcome! If you come up with more questions, be sure to ask them too :-)

1) When someone parries does his weapon take the damage dealt?

No. The only case where a weapon would take damage from parrying would be if the attacker was specifically targetting the weapon. Normal parrying does nothing (unless the attack is some kind of special thing that includes information to the contrary).

If you parry a weapon using your bare arms, you take half-damage.

2) If an enemy rolls under the AR and hits the damage goes into the armour right?

Correct. A successful strike (not parried or dodged) that is equal to or below the A.R. of armor will do full damage directly to that armor. The armor loses 2 A.R. points when reduced to half S.D.C. or below, and a further 2 A.R. points when it's below one third S.D.C. When it hits zero S.D.C., it is completely useless.

3) Ogres rape and mate with human women. How is this anatomically possible?

Ogres and humans come from the same genetic stock, with Ogres being pretty much a mutant that has evolved enough that non-mutants consider them different. The populations haven't been seperated enough, however, for them to lose their genetic ability to bear children with each other.

No, but if they block with a shield then the shield takes 10% of the damage.

2) If an enemy rolls under the AR and hits the damage goes into the armour right?

If we are talking about a character in suit of armor then yes. Some monsters have a natural AR, in such cases no damage is done.

3) Ogres rape and mate with human women. How is this anatomically possible?

The DNA from ogres is similar enough to that of humans to allow breeding.

Well, as for the last question, I beleive the genetic problem has been answered. It might be a problem with size, but who knows about ogre genitalia? They could be smaller in that area than humans.

HI, welcome to the best part of PB, PF.

lets do this, Dr Doom III style.

1) No

2) yes

3) 1st ed ogres where 6 to 8 foot, not anatamocaly too large to reproduce with humans.

in 2nd ed, Ogres became 7 to 12 ft, similar to trolls, lost psionics but can still choose PCCs. and except for +4 to PS, all other attributes are the same. I prefer 1st ed ogres.
2nd ed humans got a narower range, 5' to 6'6" changed from 4' to 6'10" in 1st ed.

Adam added what I intended to; I plan on writing a bit about Ogres in the future, which might explain some of the discrepancies.

WP Shield. It is an optional rule that I use, but it is in the book.

The book also talks about shields just getting roughed up and only lasting a limited time and for the GM to play with this one a bit.
Can't say I remember the 10% bit.

generaly, weapons and shields are designed to only take damage when targeted specificaly, or if the GM is being grand and wants to show how powerfull a parried strike was.
