I really wanted to go to the openhouse this year and I couldn't.
My hotel room was booked, I had all the money i'd need for tickets and other things and I'd started to make preparations for that weekend and then something dawned on me...
My wife works at a local chain store and every year from Janurary to mid to late May we have almost no money to our names because of after holiday hour cuts (and general crappy mismanagement by upper management around this time of year)
well, what really happened (it wasn't really any kind of epiphany) is that my starter on my truck crapped out and my brakes died too within a week and then it dawned on me how destitute we really were now.
Enough of my boo-hooing...
I'd like to see if there are any other people out there that would like to see the date of the openhouse be pushed back to a later date in the year (that doen't conflict with the major conventions though...obviously) if at all possible.
I personally have a much better time saving for a convention in mid to late fall (before hours fall off and vehicles fall victim to our state's ugly winter weather and late year hours are still plentiful).
Anyone else?
This isn't me whining. I'm just wondering about anyone else's situation out there.
I'd like to go next year but probably can't...see reason above...same thing...different year.
bummed. openhouse date needs to be later.

I don't want to sound cruel, but if the same problems occur each year, then its time to make some major changes across the board.
As for Open House dates, the summer is rough because you got Origins, DragoCon and GenCon and most big cities have a regional convention for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends plus people often take their summer vacations.
Fall would be good, except once you get into Mid-October, people are all about saving cash for Christmas and planning holiday stuff for Turkey Day. GenCon SoCal died because they put their dates right on top of the holiday zone.
I don't think there is a perfect time for everybody - students have different needs than seasonal workers than families with small kids, etc.
