Mapping out the 3-Galaxies. YIKES!

by DhAkael
Okay; found the "hex" pattern I needed.
Found a bunch of nice non-liscenced images of galaxies I can use for the galaxy images.
Problem.
I can only do GROSS (read; bare minimum) mapping out where systems are, while showing full galactic plane. To fit the 90,000 LY of the 'Corkscrew' I had to scale it at
1 Hex = 3,500 LY.
This means having to do a whole bunch of sub-maps for details of neighbouring solar systems. That or detailed notes about where / what is adjacent to said system.
I think I now know why there haven't BEEN any maps done yet in any of the PW books.
Anyone else find a solution...a workable one?

There are 500 billion stars combined within the Three Galaxies. That's like trying to map out two Milky Ways, stacked on top of each other.
The best you can do is to maybe the "local cluster" level with any detail.
And BTW... Thundercloud Galaxy will include a very general map, just so you have an idea of where things are in relation to one another.

Still Braden, that's not too bad. I'd love to see the results of your work DhAkael!

Ditto! You can always add things to it as time passes. Therefore making it a more complete map as time goes along.

Oh trust me.. only the most "used" Systems (and capitals of each of the major power blocks) will be noted.
Local star clusters for important sectors I might map out as well.
The map they gave in Star-Wars tm. (Edition gods only knows
) for the D20 system is another way one can go. Sorta a turn of the 19th. to 20th century "here there be dragons" style galaxy map with only the most general scale & relation for the locations.

Cool!
I have no problem with sharing this...seeing as how I'm gonna be putting a fair amount of work into it.
Please note however, certain star systems that will be marked will NOT be canonical
Just don't go looking for that desert place with all the cinamon smelling sand. It aint been found yet

Now, if only we can get some viable spulgorth starships into exsistance then we can get a table top rifts space RTS going.

Well'p...
I kinda goofed with the corkscrew map
but not really.
I just "altered' the location of two systems for the UWW into the C.S.Gal.
Alexandria (now named 'Nova Alexandria') and New Midgard. I mean, c'mon!
There are NO systems listed anywhere for the UWW in the C.S.Gal. So I threw them a bone. -sigh-
Purists can squeal if they like...I don't care. I'll go with the vague refernces given from CJ's main book. Bill Coffin was great, but he put sooo many eggs in the Anvil "basket" that..well...
-ahem-
On to other news; the Anvil Galaxy map is going to take a bit longer, due to fact I found a better ref-pic to use;
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e ... object.jpg
THAT looks like it IS the anvil galaxy as described in the dimension book of the same name
Naturaly I swapped out the other pic I was using and re-set the hex-grid back on.
For those who I have contacted already; be patient.
The other two maps will be done..once I figure out what / where I'm gonna place on 'em.

Yeah, the UWW isn't too big on settling the rest of the 3 G's. they seem to be happy with owning 20% of the Anvil (which works out to about 80% of the entire UWW).
Although, acording to the main Phase World book, they have "a few worlds" under their control in the Corkscrew.
One is the
Windscape system (found in
Three Galaxies).
Another one is mentioned in the manuscript for
Thundercloud Galaxy (by no means canon, but it might be someday, so you never know) as
Mhadya.

As I said...it's a bit of an "oops" but -meh- I think it actulay works better this way.
What? Thraxus parties with Loki all the time
Just makes sense that New Midgard would be close to Phaseworld

I know what that is like! About a 1 1/2 years ago I had to replace my old one. Of course it lived a good life. It printed over 15,000 pages before it died.

Problem solved...sorta.
Stupid thing had it's drivers corrupted in a power-spike this afternoon while trying to run the 'automatic update' program.
UGH!
Fortunately the on-line D/L from Hewlet-Packard worked.

OK... but just so you know, the Golgan have the third-largest space fleet in the Three Galaxies, between the TGE and Naruni Enterprises. Shame they don't use it, though.

Sorry; but due to fact that our "beloved" Coffin didn't stat out ANY of the gear or list assest or anything like that for the Golgans, really, they were just flavour text about a galactik gubermint in full decline with no clout at all in the grand scheme of things. Yet I'm supposed to care. Oh..and I'm also supposed to give a (censored) about the Altes? Bunch of rich spolied wanna-be playahs?
-fegh-
Pages I skip over when ever I open that book. They are irrelevnt and useless.

i imagine they have a "clan jade falcon*" problem with their navy. every time they try to use it, their ships get captured and turned against them.
at least thats better than a "Free worlds league" problem. **
* so named after the faction in battletech, which lost no less than 4 of their 10 warships in one year, all to much weaker forces. in all cases, the much weaker forces took over or otherwise caused said warships to surrender, and then turned them on the former masters to much greater effect.
** builds up the biggest, most powerful fleet of warships in the game, and then looses all 27 of them to sleeper agents placed by another faction...in the course of one day.

Okay, the Thundercloud is my final map to work on.
Gleba did an excellent job of 'populating' it, just one problem; most the info on 50% of the Thundercloud systems is just one-trick ponies for '
Hook-line & stinker..er sinkers'.
*grumble*
Oh well. Not for me to question a published writer now is it.
I leave it to the individual GM's on the longevity & relevancy of said systems in their campiagns.
I'm just here making maps.

Just remeber..that is a gross overview of the main systems.
Within each hex (especialy for the Corkscrew Galaxy) could be nearly a dozen inhabited solar systems
BUT...that is for the individual GM's to take care of. My job is just to make sure that the
primary locales are put in relation to each other. Detail work can be done by someone else
