How much would a pound of coffee be worth? Or a pound of tobacco?

Coffee would probably be highly prized. Tobacco... well that would depend on where you are in the country. In the Southeastern US, tobacco fields are quite common. Consequently, it wouldn't be worth much there.

It would really depend on the good and might take some out of game research.

There are plenty of things that could price high that as far as I know aren't grown/produced much (or widely at least) in the US, but more importantly even if they are produced in the US, after the fall of civilization the manufacturing facilities are gonna be full of bugs, and few people will know how to make many things we take for granted.

Pepper
Rice
Coffee
Wine & fine liquor (especially older kinds that get better with age)
Gunpowder
Salt (inland), necessary for preserving meats if no refrigeration
Foreign spices
Pain killer Meds (Tylenol, etc)
Fever controllers (Tylenol, etc)
Antibiotics
Vitamins
Bleach
Soap
Glasses (I'd be screwed, I'm legally blind without my glasses)
Fabric (all cotton is pretty much in the southeast, it's a long trip to get that to the midwest, and I have no clue how easy it would be to manufacture synthetics, leather clothing would probably have huge increase)
Fruit & Veggies for a balanced diet, canned goods will run out (see no vitamins, above)
Paper

That's probably the tip of the iceberg if you really took some time to think about it and research it.

Hey, I'm just trying to figure out trade goods this guy might have. I sent you the sheet; he's already carrying a drekload of booze, plus a lot of flour and sugar, plus the sheep and chickens.

I just had the inspiration that he'd probably have coffee, and then realized I had no real idea how much it would be worth.

Never read any Tom Clancy. My fluff reading tends to be fantasy.

You haven't seen the movies, either? Heh, I should make you watch C&PD with me as required background research for your character. :)

See, I was getting more of a Jayne vibe from him...

As a border patrol agent, he'd be expected to have at least a college degree!

You went to A&M and didn't meet any Jayne-equivalents? Did you never leave the engineering buildings?

I'm playing Systems failure with an aerospace engineer who used to be a CIA analyst. I scrupulously avoided his areas of expertise in making my character. ;-)

Good lord, how many Aggies are on here? You know they only let the engineers out of Zach at night so they can chase off the rats.

If he'd wanted schooling, he'd have gone to school.
