Question regarding scroll conversion

This just occured to me after reading another thread. Could a mage with the psionic of Total Recall easily remember a previously converted scroll and just use this psionic to do it again? It makes sense to me, but I wanted the opinions of my esteemed fellow GM's.

At most, they could remember the words used on the scroll, but that would not give the ability to cast the spell again.
Its not the words on the scroll that are important, its the mystical energy patterns that are set free that are what the mage has to remember. This is only possible with a successful spell scroll conversion.
To answer the question, "Can I use Total Recall (psi)" to re-do a Failed spell scroll conversion attempt?" the answer is No.

Mysteries of Magic addresses this, actually. Certain psychic powers aid in scroll conversion and spell creation; I don't believe that Total Recall is one of them, but I don't have a copy available to check.

Yeah, no one has a copy available to check, damn it! Not surprised you already considered this though.

Yeah, it's probably a one-time shot to do a conversion.
Spell scroll conversion is a one shot deal.
No probably about it.
If you want to try again after failing, get another scroll.

Powers that affect it are Clairvoyance, Commune with Spirit, and Sixth Sense.

all powers that probably made sense to the writer at the time, but the reader... < scratches head >
Clairvoyance: Ability to see the future. Directable to specific topics, but not always what you want.
Commune with Spirit: Another source of information on how to do it; can catastrophically fail.
Sixth Sense: "If you mess this up, it will explode into a greater demon."

gadrin wrote:It's as probable as your GM. How many rules of PB have you ignored ?
For instance if he's built his whole game around you
deciphering a scroll and you don't...
Well then the GM had better make sure the skill roll does not fail. But that is in the realm of GM descression.

Are you talking about Rifts or another RPG ?
Palladium Fantasy.
In Rifts Clairvoyance, a failed roll means "absolutely nothing happens" & burns up the ISP. This also means if you get a vision, you know it's true. You might not interpret it correctly but you'll never get a false vision. I know, I've studied the wording on this one carefully.
And your vision might not be about the question you asked. It will be a true vision, but possibly useless.
Commune with Spirit ??? Well unless it's the ghost of a dead mage, who the heck is going to trust an Entity ? I realize other types of creatures fall into this, like a Deevil Wraith masquerading as something, but, it seems like quite a stretch to assume that this psi-ability is going to be used over and over to learn scroll magic. "Who are you talking to, oh yeah the ghost that knows everything about spellcasting...Thoth's HQ, my name is Shanna, let me connect you..."
Read the power in PF; there's a reasonable chance you'll get a helpful and knowledgeable spirit.
Sixth Sense I don't believe there's a "scroll backfire table" in Rifts, but I could be wrong, since I don't know RUE that well. I thought when you don't get your roll, it just craps-out.
