Naruni Cargo Hopper - Based on Phase Worlds Runner Ship

Here we go again! :)

Inspired to try and draw the deck plans for the "Runner Ship" I found that once again I could not use the scale in the book. At least not with my limited drawing abilities :D

I should know better anyway. There are times when what the writer visualizes is different from what the artist draws or interprets. Hey that's ok, cause the Runner Ship in the drawing looks cool and I think that is what Palladium was shooting for anyway.

So instead of saying that this "is" the Runner Ship from DB2 Phase World I instead present the Naruni Enterprises Cargo Hopper. Its based on the drawing of the runner ship, but yeah, there is no way I could make this baby 30 feet wide. It just wasn't going to happen. So lets just call this a different version of the Runner Ship. I would just keep the stats the same for ease of game play.

Critique is always welcome. I kind of did this on the Q/T. With my allergies bothering me lately I couldn't concentrate on writing. Thing is I still had the creative urge, so I did this instead.

Enjoy :ok:

I just posted it on my website last night (8/28). I'm not sure why the link will work for some and not others. I have to add a link on my site tonight. When I do I'll direct folks there.

As el magico -- darklorddc pointed out. I'd use the Runner ship stats since this is what I based it on. The deck plans are meant as GM tools for those that use them. The Arcane Mark II was used in my last game as the players had to steal a Death Clound Cannon. Of course they ended up taking the ship, but the deck plans were still usefull.

el magico -- darklorddc wrote:Picture worked for me...good deck plans. Most rendering programs will have a grid and many will give you measurements.
I drop my models in Carrara and do some modeling work on them sometimes, and I keep every ship I create in one master file for scaling purposes. I have this big 3-D cube where all the ships sit to scale with one another. I click on one, and it tells me exactly what size, in feet, it is. This is how I get my ship measurements...and it prevents me from accidentally making decks 4 feet tall (this was an infamous blunder with the Enterprise and the Reliant in ST2: The Wrath of Kahn).

I'm just using Campaign Cartographer 3. Madmanmike hooked me up with poser when it was being offered for free. I've just not had the time to learn how to use it. I even bought a few of the models and ship parts to create stuff.

This I did not know. Was that one one of the DVD's? I have the special edition and am wondering if I missed that fact?

I just added a link on my Maps page. If anyone can't get to the page from the link above try going directly to http://www.dimensionpress.com, go to "MY Maps" and then click on the link to the Naruni Cargo Hopper.

Hi there!

Really nice.

However - I cannot step over my shadow, I guess  - there are a few
suggestions:

1, Lascannons look like to have a limited arc of fire, namely forward only.
This is not an ideal distribution of defensive armament, to say so.
I suggest the two "nacelle" mounted ones to be mounted on the side of
the engine pods, maybe retractable, and the third one to be mounted
on the top of the upper bridge section.

2, Missile launcher "potrusions" better have a blast door to separate
them from cargohold, avoiding decompression and maybe backblast
into the cargo area (you know, where the reloads are).

3, Install a few - personal or maybe two persons' - escape pods near
the bridge. Something that keeps you alive for a week at most, then
become your coffin, which it resembles anyway.

4, Where is the minibar?

Adios

Hmmm...maybe the entire crew cabin detaches from the rest of the ship in an emergency?

Perhaps if I have time I'll work out a variant based on these suggestions :ok: Just by looking at the picture on page 172 I was given the impression that all weapon systems were fixed forward. I do however agree with you KLM. Turrets with an arc of fire make for a much better defence.

Good point. I'll have to work on this.

I'm half tempted to say that the whole crew area is a "second" ship. I was thinking of adding some engines to it. I'll have to see how I can work in an escape pod or two.

Just doing my job, sir! :D

A few points:
As for the upper section, it is more likely - IMO, of course - that it works
more like a "compartment" in ships and especially submarines - if the
rest of the ship is filled with holes and lacks life support, one can still
be alive in the crew compartment.
However if it happens and the wreck of the ship begins to fall towards
a planet, it is time to head for the escape pods.

As for the escape pods, as I vote for very small ones - basically a
coffin sized and even shaped thing, which can keep one or two
persons alive and survive a reentry. Basically the same as any flying
PA, just a little more protection against the enviroment and lacking
nuclear (or anti-matter, for that matter) powerplant, but instead operating
on batteries - for a few days. The exhausted life support kills the
passangers anyway before that time.

Weaponry: IMO we see a few slots on the graphics (two larger ones on
the four potrusions each and a row of smaller ones on the upper section).
Any or none of them can indicate the missile launchers, but no sign of
the lasers.
As a side note, the description speaks about "laser arrays" - so they
might not be shaped like a familiar "ball turret with a few barrels potruding".
Maybe like the phaser banks on ships of another sci-fi setting...?

Just a darn shame campaign cartographer costs an arm & leg and some of a persons spleen.
Seriously; it's over the top for price.
-sigh- :badbad:
Guess if you want something done without getting beggered, you gotta do it yerself with photoshop...and lots & lots of patience (re; Landale 2, 3 decks plus bridge = 26 hours 17 minutes. Yeah, I clocked myself on total time spent working on it.)

That is the reason I look for pics on line and then I make a description which describs the pic for the material I create. Of course I can't post a lot of it here. :D

My pleasure Aramanthus :ok: I'm always looking for deals myself. FRP Games also puts some items on ebay so sometimes you can get them even cheaper. Still for what I do on CC3 I think its worth the price. I have to get around to updating some of my older maps done on CC2 to CC3. The new map effects are awesome.

Do you have any particular ships in mind? This site has a nice selection of Star Wars deck plans. Some of Madmanmikes ships have interiors.

I've seen those ships. I used the illistrations for inspiration of ships I've created.
