Oh hell yeah! Agreed.
Which is even weirder as I wrote an entire book about Archie and his creations...

7th Armored Cavalry
"Whenever in future wars the battle is fought, armored troops will play the decisive role..." -Heinz Guderian
Originally an Armored Cavalry Troop, a Company of Main Battle tanks supported by a Company of mechanized infantry and an Artillery detachment, the 7th is now a shattered shell of a unit. the 7th had contracted out to the State of Tolkeen, just prior to the war. initially, the unit did well, pushing back coalition armored units twice their size. but late in the war, tolkeen abandoned them, cutting off their supplies and leaving them to delay a Coalition brigade as the main Tolkeenite force withdrew. considering that the Coalition force outnumbered the unit twenty to one, the 7th did well. they held off the coalition force for 6 hours before falling, most of their force decimated in the battle. the unit would have been wiped out entirely had it not been for the Coalition Commander, who declared a ceasefire and allowed the few remaining members of the unit to withdraw unopposed.
Tolkeen immediately voided their contract, claiming the unit violated orders by withdrawing. to avoid his units remaining equipment and personell being impressed into the tolkeen army, Major Thomas Custer, the last surviving senior officer, ordered the unit to abandon Tolkeen. the 7th was only saved from Tolkeenite reprisal by the war, and ultimately by the coalition's victory. Major Custer led the 7th to Merctown, with plans of rebuilding the unit. however, because of the units exit from tolkeenite service, its finances were at their lowest, and with few profitable contracts for a specialized unit so small, the unit was forced to look for a unit to subcontract to. no larger unit was willing to allow the 7th to retain its name, traditions, and command structure, which did not bode well for the unit. when the Nexus Nine Mercenary Command formed, the 7th was one of the first units to join up, the flexibility of the N9's to their liking.
The 7th is something of an oddball unit. it was formed by Johnson Custer, who claimed to be a decendant of the Famous George Armstrong Custer. John custer was voted to the rank of Lt. Colonel by his troops at the formation of the unit, despite having only served as a Leutenant in the Militia of a small town prior. many of that Militia formed the core of the early 7th, and brough with them a knowledge of combined arms warfare quite out of place for such a small community. early on, the 7th employed an eclectic mix of armored fighting vehicles and Infantry gear, but as they prospered as a unit, they gradually replaced their cobbled together equipment with the best combat vehicles money could buy. the 7th holds a reputation for excellence, with excellent training and superb skills in the art of armored warfare. on the battlefeild, they are a well oiled fighting machine, extremely professional and capable. but out of battle, they are a wild, rowdy bunch, known for parties, practical jokes, and outragious behavior. as many members put it "we work hard, so when we play, we want to have fun." one thing the unit prides itself on is its knowledge of robots. as tankers, they have nothing but scorn for 'bot-jockies, and they learn as much as possible about them so they can more effectively destroy them on the battlefeild. "any thing a robot can do, a tank can do better" is a common slogan with the unit, and on the battlefeild, they strive to prove it true. the different crews and squads keep a running tally of each bot they destroy, and this competition can often run over into freindly rivalries between crews.
the unit commander is Major Thomas Custer, the son of John Custer. Tom Custer was the only surviving senior officer after service with Tolkeen, and was voted into command shortly before tolkeen voided the 7th's contract. he has refused to accept promotion to Lt. Colonel, at least until the unit is large enough to warrant one.
