MDC Starstreak
Hey all,
I was just wondering what the stats would be for an MDC near Hypervelocity version of the Starstreak Missile. I'm not going to say what I want one for, but it's going to be really nice.

Re: MDC Starstreak
really that's hard to say... pretty much, it could be anything you wanted. I'd probably go with about 2D6x10 to 3D6x10, but that's just an arbitrary assignment on my part. Range of something like 10 miles? And going to a way faster speed probably wouldn't increase damage much since mostly the damage comes from the explosives in the submunitions.

Re: MDC Starstreak
Uh, isn't it just a mulit-warhead missile? Rifts already has those.
Re: MDC Starstreak
aren't the multi warheads supposed to be mini-nukes tho?

Re: MDC Starstreak
ok let make one by the rules.
SHOULDER LAUNCHED STARSTREAK
The portable shoulder-launched Starstreak is assembled and ready to fire in a few seconds. Preparation for firing involves clipping an aiming unit onto the missile canister.
Missile Body Length140cm
Missile Body Diameter13cm
Weight20kg
Maximum SpeedOver Mach 4
Range0.3km to 7km
Each sub ammunition is a high kinetic energy kill weapon Each dart contains guidance and control circuitry, a thermal battery, and a high-density penetrating warhead with fuse, IE they are guided Armor piercing Mini-missile. (X3 on a crit and +5 to hit) Don't have RUE so i Don't know the rules for guided missiles in the old book smart missiles are +5 to hit +4 to dodge.
The main war head has class Three Fusion block doing 4D6x10 to a 10ft radius.
LIGHTWEIGHT MULTIPLE LAUNCHER
The Multi-Mission System (MMS), which is a lightweight vehicle-mounted turret system, which can be equipped by power armor and heavy borg on any light wheeled vehicle, hover vehicle or Sky Cycle.
The Multiple Launcher employs three canistered missiles together with clip-on equipment and a standard aiming unit. Three targets can be engaged in quick succession without the need for reloading.
Edit: went back and saw that class 3 fusion blocks do 4D6x10 Not 3Dx10...

First of all, at 20kg, that puts the missile pretty much into the SRM class of weapons. That's going to limit your warhead size quite a bit.Class 3 fusion block is size of hand held computer i'm guessing about 1lbs one sec i'll check yep one pound thats what the book says a hand held comp weighs. That would be with casing and timer.
Not so way powerful as i just used the main book. But hey everytime i start using stuff from the main book i get called munchkin so what the hey.

Re: MDC Starstreak
yeah. compared to the explosive charges used for demolitions, the explosives used in missiles look to be just high end SDC explosives. using fusion blocks for example, would easily make MRM's more potent than standard LRM's. (the HG plastique i tend to ignore, since plastique has some limitations that make using it as a straight HE explosive inefficent. might make some good AP rounds though, using shaped charges...or frag, if you wrap the stuff in ballbearings...)

Re: MDC Starstreak
Well, here's what I came up with...real world wise:
3 darts, each doing 2d6 MD...that's it
PB has a tendency to overrate the toughness of mecha, underrate the toughness of vehicles and sort of...badly guess about weapons damages...
But the Starstreak can be used against ground targets, which is a plus (95% of other Anti-Aircraft Missiles can not be used vs. ground targets).
It is small, lightweight and has a great engagement envelope. I'd say a +4 to strike, due to the SACLOS...

oh yeah, forgot about those...
anyway, I like what whipped4073 said.

Re: MDC Starstreak
The star streak is a lot more like a recoiless guided railgun than a conventional missile. Those three submunitions are designed to pierce the target first, then explode with their relatively low explosive payload on the inside of the target.
So I'd say give it the damage capabilities of a AP Mini-Missile overall, but full guided missile (maybe even smart bomb) bonuses and a 7 km (about 4 mile) range. Suitible for use from Short Range Missile Launchers.
