Randolph Family Mansion from BtS 1
I am currently using this in my current game, has anyone else here used it/converted it to 2'nd Ed. games? Also, I am interested if anyone has tried making stats for the Phytinic energy cane and what effect it has on the paranormal. It states that it can paralyze corporeal creatures and absorb/dissipate energy beings. I am working on stats for this device, but was wondering what anyone else might have come up with.

Dude, VERY cool! And not a bad assessment for the cane, but I thought Immobilize froze items in place? The way I was reading the stats, it was more like a cross between Paralysis and Life Drain, seeing as how it sapped supernatural creatures of energy in order to power the device. I was also thinking of using it as a way to bolster the range of beings from other games who could transport themselves like Shifters, Wanderers, any being with the power to teleport, etc.
I'm also considering that since supernatural energies are used to empower the Phytinic devices, it's possible to transport to other locations as long as there is ambient magical energy, like ley lines, nexus points, even haunted houses! The cold spots and vortices talked about in these locations sound like possibilities to me.
What I was thinking of for stats of the cane is 1d6 against mortals, animals and normal things. But against the supernatural and touching the glass ball at the end, it acts as Paralysis and Life Drain, target save is 14 with a -1 to save per every strike. There might be a modifier for damage, but in essence, for every point of damage/life drain, the cane is charged with an equal point of Phytinic energy, or P.P.E. or I.S.P. I was also considering that creatures in energy form(the easiest absorbed/discorporated) could NOT make a save against it, and took 1d6X10 damage per strike of the ball end. Once full, perhaps it could cut the energy needed for a teleporter or dimensional being either in half, extend the range or even offset penalties for percentile rolls for success. I can easily see certain beings using such devices as some kind of nourishment, antenna or focal point.

Thanks, much appreciated. The way I'm running my game, such a device would have a significant effect on other supernatural creatures as well. Also, after looking at the description of the tentacle creatures, it would seem that the cane might hurt them, but they can enter Death Trance at will. It also might explain their becoming immobilized as playing possum.

I've used it twice and it worked great both times. I can't remember offhand what I did for the cane...The first time I ran it, there wasn't BTS2, so I may not have done anything at all.
I think my second group actually broke it, iirc.
However, I did change the intro so that it wasn't a family moving in, rather I had a college-based paranormal investigative group receive the property as a grant...They just had to find an artifact for a mysterious, and very coincidentally timed benefactor.

This is a cool idea for an adventure... I may have to do the same.

What Adventures from BtS 1 do you use?
How do you update them?

I use the Randolf Family Mansion from time to time and haven't found it needed much in the way of updating. Never statted out the Phytinic cane though. I've found it pretty rare that players have actually figured out everything it can do and I've never, ever, seen a group of players try to use it outside of the Randolf mansion adventure itself. I wonder why that is? Usually players are pretty quick to test and inventory any item that might provide any special edge. I'll have to ask some of my players to see if they remember.
In any case, I've always loved the Randolf Family Mansion and I've often used it as a GM. Maybe it's because of how awesomely it was run for me back in the day. "Cybermancer" got his start in that old house. The energy creatures there are largely responsible for the mathematical genius he would eventually become.
Makes me want to get a bunch of players together for a little haunted house action...
