Adam of the Old Kingdom - Down but not out.
Posting this for you lot who remember Adam of the Old Kindom. He does still post here on the odd (very odd for Adam...) occasion.
I only just found out today that he was involved in a motorcycle accident last friday. He and his g/f were riding down south to a for party that was being held on the saturday.
They were going down on the g/fs bike (which she reciently just bought....), with Adam riding, g/f pillion.
They were heading down the road, 100kph (about 63mph for you Yanks), when Australia's favourate marsupial hopped out infront of them.
Yeah, they hit a kangaroo at 100kph.... Ouch.
The g/f broke one of the bones in her leg (not sure which one, leg or bone), bad enough that she needed a pin and will need a skin graft. She'll be in hospital for a couple more weeks.
Adam did in his left (?) knee. He split the knee cap in half, and also did in the associated tendons. They have reattached the knee cap and will have a wire holding it in place for aroudn 3 months. He'll be back home this comming sunday.
And I'm sure they both have many cuts, bruises and abrasions (especially the latter). Apparently Adam did the superman thing down the road on his stomach, though he remembers being on his back the most.

Mrs. Campbell, upon hearing this instantly asked:
"How's the kangaroo?"
It's a good thing she's pretty...

If that doesn't prompt you to buy it, I don't know what else I can say.

Well, on the upside, I can already picture a set of kangaroo leather chaps.... maybe a jacket, depending on the size of the 'roo.... That'd be good payback for the little bugger.
When ya see Adam, tell him to hurry up and get home, for the monsterous elves are all over the place, and he's the only one with good recipies..

well, there is an experience I would not recomend.
Sorry, been home for a week and a half and at work for this week.
Thanks for your welwishes, when giving them it does not seem like much but every one is well appreciated now that I am on the recieving end.
so yes, just after dark on friday the 19th of may my girlfiend and I hit a kangaroo while traveling at 100km/h (62mph). we were on a once nice 2006 Suzuki SV650 (i'm sure you can google that if you need to)
the end result (for me) was 3 genaral enesthetics in 4 days, a right knee reconstruction and a wekend a half in hospital.
then 4 days of and back to work (yes I'm nuts)
the road chewed up my knee quite bad, so please wear leathers and save yourself, and I now have my kneecap wired to my lower leg while my ligaments heal. you should see the X-rays.
to more important things, the GF broke her left leg in a classic "ski boot" break. which now has a rod in it. she also needed a skin graft which kept her in untill 3 days ago. (damn it's good to have her back after a week apart)[yes, we were in the same ward]
it gets better. we had aranged that the GF would move in with me on the 1st of June, so the day after I get back from Hospital her stuff arives and, I'm an invalid. so we have to people on crutches, and our flat mate, in a 2 bedroom flat fullof furnature AND boxes.
so now it's work, sleep, healing and re-order our plans for the next 6 months. and hopefully when the time is right, get back on a bike.
PS: the bike has yet to be confirmed as a write off. the Roo was declaired dead and the policeman thanked us for not needing to use a bullet.
I can't push proper safety gear for bikes enough, being uncomfortable and hot it better than uncomfortable and in hospital. my week link was demin jeans, the rest of my gear was worth Aus$1000 and sacrificed itself to save my skin. literaly.
now, I hear elf loaf is good for healing.
