Cold Blooded

Unread post by csbioborg »

How long does a Cold Blooded live? THere is no entry in the OCC descption. However since they are a quasi undead and can regenrate from just there head it seems like it would be immortal. Do they retain any magic or psckic powers they had in life?

If they do live forever this seems like the best deal in all of Palladium. Reegular Human asks for Cold Blooded treatment. All he needs to do is eat some raw meat every two days and he's golden. Basically a Coldblooded needs to have sushi every couple days I do that
I remember days like this when my father took me to the forest and we ate wild blueberries. More than 20 years ago. I was just a boy of four or five. The leaves were so dark and green then. The grass smelled sweet with the spring wind...For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm.

I recommend asking your GM, this is one of those many blanks you need to fill in.

As for magic abilities I believe they lose those in the transformation (that would go with the general theme.

I'm fine making up rules but I am unclear why the author would leave out something that major. Its really annoying to play something under house rules then in order to use future supplements having to ret con the campiagn.

there is only like 3 OCCs that list the age modification of their members (Jucier, full conversion borg and lorg magus).

this is pretty standard.

Its clearly a tad different than the averge RCC
Its a dramtic and complte alteration of the person into a quasi undead that can regnertate after there entire body has been destoyed as long as thier head is intact.

It is much more comparable to the Murder Wraith or the Vampire RCC. It is simlar to the Lord Magnus OCC as the charecter is tunred premaently into a creature of magic.

that's what I'd think but its just such a good deal though. No major penalties, alignment chnage etc. Really you just need to eat raw meat every few days and you have a chance to pick up a random indanity because the process is taxing that and a -1 PB

in exchange you get a whole bunch of bonues to stats a near gurantee you'll never get another insanity plus all the powers. Who would want to be a murder wraith or a juicer while your at it. For a few million credits you get to be a Cold Blooded

I was excluding CS troops but palladium dosen't have anything really bad about being undead. They aren't tied to the NEgative Plane. So the only thing that is bad is what undeath forces you to do. Here why would you hate someone that is gong under a treatment that let's you keep far more humanity than say a full conversion and has no real side effects for yourt neighbors

Yeah, the cold-blooded conversion does kick-butt. In-game, I'd make it comparatively rare or difficult to find someone capable of doing it compared to juicer, crazy or cyborg conversions though, just to balance it out.

I think it is rare to find even with in the listed city-states that have the conversion. Besides I don't know many people that would like to be undead (No more getting it on if you know what I mean. )

can I has an undead stealth ninja bunny squadron?

It is the nature of Chi my friend, Undead only have NEGATIVE Chi, most ninja tricks use POSITIVE Chi.

Rifts Merc Adventures, page 19, right column, second paragraph:
Although something akin to a vampire, the Cold-Blooded is NOT an undead.

It seems a particularly narrow definition of Undead, since it does not include Zombies or a number of other classic undead. What they probably meant to say is you are not a Vampire.

i don't have the book in front of me but i remember that they make a big point about saying that the cold-blooded are not undead. They even have you rising to your new life as at dawn just to drill that point in. if i remember correctly..

Precisely my point, most mythology considers Living Dead and Undead as one and the same thing, someone somewhere has narrowed the definition.

I have another question, how much PPE does a Cold Blooded have, and what if anything would happen to any psionics that they had before the transformation?

it dosen't say so presumably whatever he had before. It also says you only keep four of your OCC skills from before the transformation so presumably that means your psionics get eaten up but there is no explicit meniton of anything about psionics other than a imnuty to vampire mind control

That irks me as well. No mention of ISP or PPE base. Especially since the equipment section says they like TW weapons--can they even activate a TW weapon?

Yea I saw that and was left wondering. I'd assume that they can since it says they like the weapons, but I've got no idea how much of either they think they should have.

I figured ISP would be negligable absent any actual psionic powers, and PPE would be a low but useful number... say 6D6 or so.

Well I was wondering about ISP based on the idea that they were some sort of psychic from beforehand maybe.

The more I look at this OCC write-up, the more I'm dissappointed. It also skimps on the character's appearance. Normally that wouldn't bother me, but in the case the illustration is quite different than the one line given and a generic "-1 to PB."

The -1 PB is from the Pale Skin and Blue Veins.
Your not actually uglier. You just gain Pale Skin and blue veins people happen to notice.

Cold Blooded would fit right into a Gothic Nightclub crowd.

As for ISP and PPE. Not sure.
Since it says they like TW weapons Just let then use them, specially the ones that never need to "activated".
ISP would be dependent on your Psychic Level. None, Minor, Major, Master.
PPE wouldbe dependent on you Magic Casting type. I guess.
