So I've been thinking about what I'm goign to run on Halloween weekend and I think I have it.
Its going to be a victims campaign, partly for play testing for the sourcebook writing (which is about 60-70% written) and partly becasue it fits my game idea.
I'm going to set the game in the Catskills Mountains area of New York state. While its currently known for its campgrounds and resorts, fans of early American literature will recall its where "Rip Van Winkle" dwelled. The author, Washington Irving, had also written a favorite of mine "The Legend of Sleepy Hallow". In short, I'm going to have both stories collide.
The PC's will be decendants of the people & families that were involved both stories. The game will start with the PC's going to a halloween party at a family owned resort cabin, and when they plan to leave, they are suddenly assaulted by the headless horseman! The ghosts of Henry Hudson's crew and other iconic creations of the stories around this time will all be thrown in for the fun of it.
I'm still in the writting/planning stage, but I do plan to have the victims learning of their history somehow, and eventually needing to make thier way to the bridge by the old Dutch cemetary in Sleepy Hallow/Tarrytown, and cross the bridge as according to legend that the horseman cannot go beyond it.
Along the away will be the various ghosts, witches, devils and other supernatural goodies from the folks tales of the time period like
Tam o' Shanter,
the Wild Huntsman and others.
Keep ya posted.
