Well, since a traditional samurai won't use a vibro-daisho...
I just have the swords do MDC damage to MDC constructs and beings, SDC damage to SDC constructs or beings.
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.

That's way too simple and sensible an answer. It'll never work.

Since traditional samurai armor is listed as being MDC, I'd say it darn well better be able to deal MD, or else fights between Samurai would be pretty stupid. I go with the first option: MD to MDC, SD to SDC. It fits with the mythos of the Katana, and it makes sense considering in game the New Empire and Otomo Shogunate feuded for years.

If it didn't deal MD to modern body armor, how the hell would the New Empire not get completely rolled by the Shogunate?

That's pretty much how I've always done it.

Just wait for Japan 2 with additional information about the True Samurai swords.

Don't you owe us Triax II first?

Triax 2 is scheduled for March. So the answer is, he doesn't owe us anything, that's being released.

Not with this company. I'll believe it when it's in print. Lemuria ring a bell?

I always took it to mean that it does 6D6 of whatever kind of damage was appropriate for what it was striking.

Never bring a sword to a gun fight ;-)

I would say the rules would say that they only do MD to MDC magical foes. I would allow it to extend to magical armor as well [like the stuff other samuri wear]. I guess they'll have to rely on something other than samuri when a technological enemy appears [much like in real history ;-)]

For sake of playability, however, i'd let him to MD to anything with MDC.

Sorry to Necro-post here, but I would like to know what is meant by a Living Samurai Sword. I've seen them mentioned very briefly in starting equipment for a Tengu...

Rifts WB8:Japan, pages 44-45. "True" daisho are considered a type of lesser rune weapon, described as invested with power by a life essence bound to its component swords via sacrifice.

Yep, I did find that page eventually, but thanks for replying anyway.

Did I say that, I'm now playing a Tengu in Palladium Rifts. Run by the same person who wanted a Gryphon mount in Palladium Fantasy and one with Supernatural strength. (Just look, for posts under my name if you'd like to now more about that one.) Now, I'm (The Tengu) asking for a mount that is actually one of those giant mutant Cockroaches from Rifts Australia. Anyway, Tengu have some connection with living Samurai Swords...
