Who has characters in and around DC?

Unread post by Jefffar »

We might have something big happen in the capitol soon, so I was wondering if we have a role-call of who might be around for it.

As you know, Nemesis is in the area. At least until June.

The next closest will be Cyber who will shortly be taking up residence in Richmond, Virginia. Not exactly next door but not that far away either.

The others are all too far away, I suspect.

Well Ron, I still have a cadre of characters more than available, just give the word. I would like to have the reintroduction of Rebecca happen in DC for personal reasons.

I'm thinking a fire . . . maybe a tornado . . . perhaps a very localized earth quake or maybe a surprise flood.

A fire may be more believable or a tornado is also good. A flood doesn't seem practical and an earthquake would shut down the city with the president on the first flight out of DC.

You could try a sinkhole. They are sudden, unpredicatble, and localized enough where it would not shut the city down. Plus they can get quite big.

You know, it's only a matter of time before another Hurricane crops up and smashes into the east coast of the States. While it might mean waiting, it could tie the things into real life events.

Wrong time of year for hurricanes; specially the strong ones. Sides, a hurricane though destructive, I don't think pacts the damage that Jeffar might be looking for.

Anyway I have cleared up Becky's schedule and she will be available for whatever you got planned, provided it doesn't involve high explosives or massive firepower. :P

Thus why I mentioned it would mean waiting. And I'm sure a hurricane would be plenty destructive enough.

Well we're looking for devastation of a limited area, so a hurricane is out, too big an area affected, not enough damage to most things within that area. A sinkhole typically doesn't permit reuse of the land afterwards as nobody ever really believes it's re-stabilized.

If you use an earthquake, you can connect it to the "Another Earthquake, what could it mean?" thread over at Lazlo.

Yeah, though might seem kinda odd about an earthquake in an area with no fault zones, let alone one strong enough to knock down buildings in a fe blocks but leave the rest of the city mostly unharmed.

Then again, seeing as Washington was built over an old swamp, might have some quick clays there.

Still, a tornado or maybe a microburst (aka a 'gustnado') or a massive fire is probably the way to go.

Clearly you need an airbursting nuke at 550 meters.

Doable, but we have to keep it plausible - so we'll need a plot to change the constitution first . . .

Get a necromantic arcanist to resurrect Patton and set him loose on the town like they did in '32. Yes. You. Can.

Ok Jeffar I asked my gaming group the question about which they think would work as a hypothetical situation. 3 agreed with the fire because there are so many possibilities, the other 2 agreed with the sink hole.

The fire angle has many possibilities as to an actual origin and plenty of " conventional " ways to explain it away too. So if you want run with a fire for this idea of yours, I'm game.

Fun fact, there are companies that do business by buying properties in disaster areas, using disaster relief money to get start redeveloping an area, then sell the now valuable property for top dollar.
