Converting real world (super?) enhancements and equipment.

Unread post by Blight »

As some people here know i had a health scare a while back. After a little over a year i put on 130lbs. I had a long road to recovery. So proper diet and lots of exercise,(more than I've done since getting out of the army) and lots of research into better training methods and aids became a very important part of my life. But I'm a gamer scifi geek and i started to wonder how far science had pushed human enhancement. I have brought up some of these and shared what I've found here with you all. But here's a new Idea let make stats for these amazing inventions for Heroes. Something a non-powered hero might get his hands on. Ya i know there are better in the game but these are real and would probably be easier (and cheaper) to get. Plus i just get a kick out of see what science has come up with. So everyone throw in something cool they have found then we will convert it for Heroes. I start with one of my favorites.

IGF1
Muscle strength doubled
laboratory studies show that injecting into muscles a manipulated virus that carries a gene for insulin like growth factor 1, also known as IGF1, causes target muscles in rats to grow in size and strength by 15 to 30 percent. The inserted gene causes formation of extra IGF1 which, in turn, prompts the growth of muscle cells. When the technique was used on rats that were also put through an exercise program, the animals doubled their muscle strength. D.A.R.P.A. was going to implement human studies with plans to treat every soldier in the U.S. military. Congress over-site found out it was permanent and axed the idea they thought it would be bad to have super strong soldiers released into the populous. They would prefer if it was a treatment that the government could control and would wear off like a super steroid (you just can't make this stuff up).
So as a GM i balk at the idea of Doubling any player stats. So i propose a flat stat increase of 15 to PS (Unless under 15 then double PS) and 8 to PE. (remember all muscle fiber is increased red and white) and 2D6 to SDC. PS is considered normal. Not effective on superhuman and supernatural muscles due to genetic differences.

There is at least one person out there who was born with that gene I think...of course he is like 3 now. Mind, in the game instead of actually increasing PS, you might just increase how much they can lift.
