And I picked up China for a game I never ran. Lol.

Atlantis - weren't that many world books back then :). Plus it looked pretty exotic. Just reading material pretty much.

WB1: Vampire Kingdoms, and we used it immediately. It was the only world book out at the time, and we were all livid that Atlantis was late because we desperately wanted it.

VK remains my absolute favorite world book.

Triax and the NGR was my first, I think.

My first Rifts game was set in the NGR, although ironically, no one in the party used Triax equipment

WB1: Vampire Kingdoms because it was the only one (WB, I am not counting Sourcebook 1) back then! Not because it was my favorite...actually, it is one of the best but still, most people who plays RIFTS since 1990 bought VP first!

Someone in the group picked up books as they came out, so we were playing with each world book pretty much as soon as they came out. But the first world book that I personally purchased was WB3: England. The group already had a copy, but I had fallen in love with Temporal Wizards and wanted to have my own copy.

I don't care about canon answers. I'm interested in good, well-reasoned answers and, perhaps, a short discussion of how that answer is supported or contradicted by canon.

If I don't provide a book and page number, then don't assume that I'm describing canon. I'll tell you if I'm describing canon.

15 - 16 years ago I bought RMB (soft cover and silver hard cover) and vampire kingdoms all on the same day. I think silver cost me $35, I believe the soft cover was $25 and I'm happy to say that Vampire Kingdom was in the used bin (still in great shape) for $13.
Up until that point we just shared the GM's books.

A friend of mine used to run a lot of Rifts, and had multiple copies of the most important books. When he started having less time to run games, he sold me some of his extra books - RMB, CB1, and SB1 if I remember correctly. I really liked the Triax stuff in SB1, so he told me to bick up WB5: Triax and the NGR.
I used some of the equipment from it to outfit my first character, and one adventure I ran had a pretty epic battle with an Ulti-Max with a few VX series cyborgs backing it up. The party wanted that RPA really bad and they were pissed off that they weren't able to capture it - the pilot didn't surrender until everything but the reinforced pilot compartment was slag.
Other than that, I haven't used it much. But my next book purchase is going to be Triax 2, and if I ever get another chance to run a game, it will likely be in the NGR/Gargoyle Empire area.

I see a lot of people saying WB1 VK as their first book. I have to say it was the first one I looked at but not the first I bought. It was another couple of years before I got into Rifts myself. Once I found a group for Rifts, they were up to WB5.

I picked up Rifts originally because of the picture of the Terrain Hopper in an ad in the Robotech II: Sentinels RPG (or it might have been Invid Invasion, I'd have to look). Bought the main book, and then shortly after Sourcebook 1 and Atlantis (and therefore finally got my terrain hopper) - used both extensively. Then I got England a payday or two later, a book I love but haven't gotten a lot of use out of.
